Has a previous homeowner ever showed up to your home wanting to chat or visit inside your house? Do you let them? Have you ever gotten the satisfaction of ripping into them for how bad a job they did with certain upgrades or maintenance? Did you become friends?
What are your experiences? Please discuss!
I have a Majestic gas fireplace that has died. It was installed 15 years ago. I spent $1000 trying to have it fixed but the control valve is done. I also spent hours on forums troubleshooting. I've been advised that individual parts can't be swapped out bc it won't be to code, so the whole thing needs to be ripped out and replaced. I've also been told that it certainly CAN be done, and that retrofitting parts properly carries the same risks as a completely new system...but nobody will do it. Parts for my fireplace are no longer made, but it's just a gas line going into a box with a log set. It seems ludicrous that I need to hire a person to rip it out, a carpenter to frame up a brand new spot, and then have a completely new unit installed. I also don't have 15k to throw at this. What I need is a contractor who is willing to retro fit my existing unit with a new control valve. How the hell do I find that person?
Thanks for reading my rant and I know this is petty in the grand scope of things. I really wanted to avoid living in a HOA but street parking makes me wish I did. It's crazy how annoying it is dealing with this all the time. We have two bedrooms homes but people park four to six cars on the street. It's so annoying having to drive 10 mph while navigating through a constant bottleneck. Sometimes people will park trucks on either side of the road and it makes it so tight. I can't stand it. You shouldn't own so many damn cars with nowhere to put them!
