Ok, so I just saw May December today and honestly I'm struggling to fathom why Natalie Portman is currently outside of most people's top 5 for lead actress. Before I'd seen it, I thought 'yeah, makes sense she'd be snubbed in a competitive year for that' but... she's like excellent in it. It's extremely showy, it's layered, there is a big, big 'oscar scene' in there.
Usually I don't let my own viewings of things affect how I view Oscar predictions. But she's a massive name and I think Netflix have the power to push this entire cast in. Until I see her snubbed at various places, I'm putting her at least ahead of Fantasia for now.
All 3 performances in May December are great btw. This movie feels like it should he right up the academy's Street!
