I remember in the middle of last decade everyone was saying the big men’s era was gone. Now we have a 5 year streak of big men winning MVP. What a crazy stretch

[–]WarriorsOrphasmia 3769 points3770 points  (167 children)

They’ve all adapted to become a new kind of big men which I think is pretty cool

[–]KnicksOldManWiggy 1155 points1156 points  (43 children)

It's my favorite part of the 'holy trinity' of bigs. No matter what type of basketball you like to see, you can find it in one of Giannis/Embiid/Jokic

[–]76ersclickstops 648 points649 points  (23 children)

I like them all. They’re all so fun to watch. It sounds corny but we’re blessed to be able to watch any one of these guys on a given night.

[–][deleted] 408 points409 points  (17 children)

Blessed to watch all 3 and still having legends like Bton KD Curry all being in their mid to late 30s playing at an incredible level. I have my quips but the game is in an incredible place

[–]RaptorsSlamVanDamn 366 points367 points  (8 children)

Bton

That's LeBton, to you

[–]Warriorskant-hardly-wait- 168 points169 points  (1 child)

LeBton Rouge if you parlez-vous

[–]MavericksYo_Eleven 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Laissez LeBrontemps Rouler

[–]hangliger 27 points28 points  (3 children)

I'm just gonna call him Bton from now on. Who could forget the era of the legendary Bton?

[–]Knickskx2w 34 points35 points  (1 child)

It will be cool to see Bton pass the baton to Btonny in a few years.

[–]movet22 904 points905 points  (98 children)

This is a totally underplayed point. All three big men in the running can do some combination of: score (efficiently), dish, defend, shoot the three, and make their FTs. They play like guards who are roughly 7ft tall. It's wild how lucky we are to be in this era of the league's progression.

[–]KnicksSanguisFluens 147 points148 points  (9 children)

The natural progression of a shooting-focused league is teaching the big boys how to do it

[–][SAS] Derrick WhiteTyranicross 91 points92 points  (6 children)

You can teach anyone to shoot or pass but you can't teach someone to be 7 foot

[–][GSW] Shaun Livingstonnotabear629 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I believe in my teacher skills, I WILL teach a child to be 7 feet

[–]MavericksWolframbeta312 437 points438 points  (47 children)

That’s what happens when the game evolves and every big becomes a 3 point shooting threat!

[–]BucksTheCommonKoala 718 points719 points  (23 children)

3pt shooting legend, Giannis Antetokounmpo.

[–]amJustSomeFuckingGuy 121 points122 points  (20 children)

He's also not Shaq. He is willing to take shots and can make them.

[–]supert0426 193 points194 points  (13 children)

Giannis is not a 3pt shooting threat at all tho

[–][deleted] 55 points56 points  (0 children)

At least not to the opponent.

[–]Nuggetskursdragon2 35 points36 points  (3 children)

Well every big except for one of the front runners in the MVP discussion for the last 3 years :P

[–]SpursKdtM85 359 points360 points  (50 children)

Still think Giannis is a wing in the same mould as KD and Lebron

[–]potatwo 295 points296 points  (32 children)

He's more of a tall man

[–]King_Of_Zembla1 534 points535 points  (16 children)

Everyone: Basketball's positionless now

Me: Basketball positions are Fat, Shoots 3, Defense man who is actual sociopath, Long and run at hoop, short guy that looks like me that passes ball to either Fat, Shoots 3 or long and runs at hoop man.

[–]Sunsuxxoid 56 points57 points  (3 children)

I was the best fat on my High School team. Kids from other schools feared my fatness, that's how good of a fat I was.

[–]Pogys 84 points85 points  (1 child)

Shit this is pretty accurate ngl

[–]ThundernotsureifJasonBourne 41 points42 points  (1 child)

Long and run at hoop is Presti’s favorite position.

[–]BucksTheCommonKoala 92 points93 points  (2 children)

More of a long boi

[–]Wazflame 3942 points3943 points  (504 children)

International dominance continues - who do y'all think will be the next American MVP?

[–]76ers0ctologist 2019 points2020 points  (28 children)

Luke Donald

[–]76ersLucius_Magus 1165 points1166 points  (13 children)

B-Ball Paul

[–]76ersjcutta 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The Mudman cometh

[–][deleted] 47 points48 points  (1 child)

I was gonna write maxey lol

[–]thewolf9 30 points31 points  (3 children)

Good golf. Awesome visor

[–]Pelicansmnimatt 947 points948 points  (108 children)

If you asked a few years ago I'd have said Zion. Now I know it's gonna be Embiid again, Luka twice, and then Wemby twice for 10 straight years of international domination

[–]NBAlukewwilson 338 points339 points  (87 children)

If the talking heads are right it will be Wemby for the next 10 years

[–]76ersPointB1ank 293 points294 points  (78 children)

That much hype is almost impossible to live up to. I'm guessing he has disappointing results compared to what's expected, but hopefully I'm wrong.

[–]NetsOdd_Total_5549 159 points160 points  (37 children)

Idk man, I start thinking that sometimes too, then I go watch some highlights. He’s fucking unbelievable

[–]drrxhouse 77 points78 points  (11 children)

You’ve also seen Zion highlights and the hype that preceded him yeah?

No matter how ridiculous highlight videos are, I still tell people to just be patience and let’s them show it on the courts. At least a couple years of NBA ball. For all you know he could be next Zion or those coulda woulda been unstoppable if not injuries superstars.

[–]Novel_Board_6813 71 points72 points  (2 children)

Zion is pretty great for the number of games played. It’s just that he gets hurt a lot.

A healthy, in shape, more experienced Zion might have the potential for a Shaq-like career.

I don’t think we will ever see that, but the main reason Zion is somewhat of a bust are health issues. When both were playing, he looked better than Ja.

[–][UTA] Kyle KorverPeter-Tao 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Which is a big issue isn't it. People were saying his body might not hold up even before the draft. I can totally see the same risks for Wemby.

[–]melwinnnn 36 points37 points  (4 children)

Zion averages 25-7-3 on 60% shooting. Zion is a health bust not a skill bust.

[–]LakersILuvIceSpiceSimp 1013 points1014 points  (40 children)

ANT

[–]Timberwolveshorse_renoir13[🍰] 317 points318 points  (6 children)

He didn't say for which team.

[–]Timberwolveshorse_renoir13[🍰] 121 points122 points  (1 child)

Aren't I hurting enough already?

[–][deleted] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Don't do him like that

[–]doctorweiwei 86 points87 points  (14 children)

Yeah I think Ant or someone not even drafted yet

[–]Trail Blazersbolderbikes 107 points108 points  (12 children)

Ant or someone else named Ant 😏

[–]IllogicalPhilosopher 143 points144 points  (8 children)

Probably Tatum although it looks like it’ll be a while. I’m sure Giannis/Jokic/Embiid nabs one more as well as Luka getting his first possibly if the Mavs get better

[–]WestKdcjg 61 points62 points  (4 children)

I think the 65 game cutoff will help Tatum.

[–][deleted] 63 points64 points  (3 children)

ANT, Fox, or Tatum

[–]ThunderNew_Essay_4869 113 points114 points  (7 children)

Tyrese Haliburton

[–]ArgentinaGAV17 1405 points1406 points  (119 children)

This is just the beggining of the all out war between Nuggets and Sixers fans.

[–]NBAItsKBS 748 points749 points  (76 children)

The real war is happening when they meet in the finals this year

[–]76ersDomitianF 513 points514 points  (46 children)

[–]MavericksTJHookor 185 points186 points  (30 children)

Sixers have to get there so they can complete the every Philly team losing the championship game/series this season

[–]Heat BandwagonThe1WhoKnocks-WW 121 points122 points  (21 children)

So we're just pretending the Flyers don't exist now?

[–]76ersripleyateit 165 points166 points  (0 children)

Yes

[–]MavericksTJHookor 111 points112 points  (1 child)

The who now?

[–]iampachyderm 42 points43 points  (0 children)

As a lifelong Flyers fan, they really don’t rn.

[–]keystothemoon 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The Union took their place since soccer is just foot hockey on grass.

[–]D09987766 1159 points1160 points  (78 children)

Hold your horses. We’re going to keep hearing about it for every good game Jokic has for the rest of the playoffs

[–]Warriorsbeanakajulian33 66 points67 points  (0 children)

"I'm gonna regret not voting for jokic for the rest of my life"

[–]Knicksmr_grission 336 points337 points  (7 children)

Yup.

"Did the voters make the wrong call?"

"Should playoffs be included in MVP voting?"

[–]BullsFieldsFanclub 539 points540 points  (60 children)

I think Nuggets fans understand that the MVP is a regular season award more than anyone

[–]Kings Bandwagonawitkowski79 76 points77 points  (3 children)

Just means we get to start talking about next year's MVP

[–]JazzBe-Nice-To-Redditors 1753 points1754 points  (13 children)

Walker Kessler was fucking robbed

[–]Heatbeamingleanin 9940 points9941 points  (174 children)

One more MVP and he'll be officially eliminated from future MVP races

[–]Tame_Jesus 1644 points1645 points  (3 children)

LOL

[–][OKC] Steven AdamsDeadDay 413 points414 points  (0 children)

Gotta keep that MVP stock up

[–]ihorsey10 45 points46 points  (0 children)

He's already eliminated. Zach Lowe said he begrudgingly gave Harden his MVP, and probably wouldn't consider him again after that. They all have the same attitude with Embiid.

[–]KnickscorpulentFornicator 436 points437 points  (1 child)

"Mr. President - a second MVP award has hit Joel Embiid's trophy case"

[–]PistonsLocustUprising 769 points770 points  (38 children)

[–][DAL] Rajon RondoDoctorBreakfast 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I don’t have voter fatigue. Please don’t print in the newspapers that I have voter fatigue.

[–]chomcham 345 points346 points  (35 children)

The fact they brought race into this MVP makes it suck a fucking joke.

[–]KingsSureEntertainment676 140 points141 points  (15 children)

I can’t even believe that actually happened and yet it did.

[–]SpursDaHomieNelson92 130 points131 points  (1 child)

I’ll start investing in Embidd stocks right now

[–]Warriorsabekku 295 points296 points  (18 children)

One of my worst takes in 2015 was saying KAT was going to be better than Embiid and Jokic. Oh how times have changed!

[–]76ersdat_waffle_boi 115 points116 points  (6 children)

At the time it was a totally fair take. I probably woulda said the same

[–][POR] LaMarcus Aldridge-Deksametazon- 57 points58 points  (1 child)

Who would win:

a consensus 1st overall pick, a guy with injury concerns coming in, or a mid 2nd rounder?

Saying KAT would be better than both was the best take, especially how the NBA was shaping, 3pt wise.

[–]PelicansGreat_Huckleberry709 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I have an even worse take. I said Jahlil Okafor would be better than Embiid.

[–]Nuggetsshot-by-ford 32 points33 points  (2 children)

You had that convo about Joker in 2015? Humble brag alert 🚨🚨

[–]NetsTwinPeakyBlinders 1198 points1199 points  (24 children)

Great 24 hours for Sixers fans

[–]76ersshrirnpheavennow 420 points421 points  (22 children)

We can call it just a good weekend w the draft/trade for the eagles + Harper back tonight (plus the bruins and rangers got knocked out of the playoffs which is the closest things flyer fans can get to happiness this year)

[–][PHI] Joel EmbiidDrNutSack_ 143 points144 points  (18 children)

It’s reminding me of the stretch with the Phillies in the World Series, union to the championship, and the birds were still undefeated.

Man those highs were so high, but we all know how they all ended.

Its like a time bomb before everything blows up in our face again

[–]76ersLocalSlob 64 points65 points  (13 children)

It's very strange. It almost doesn't feel like defeat. Our city is a collective powerhouse across all sports (not you flyers, sell the team Comcast).

Even 2nd place x 3 is better than nothing.

[–]Trail Blazersjtiets 442 points443 points  (14 children)

I feel like Frodo after destroying the ring

[–]der_innkeeper 93 points94 points  (7 children)

But, Frodo didn't destroy the ring.

[–]Nby333 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"I can't destroy it for you

[–]y2kbug 23 points24 points  (1 child)

[–][deleted] 674 points675 points  (27 children)

Im just glad that we have amazing trio Giannis, Jok & Embiid now with MVP awards... Feels right and complete I dont know how else to describe it, congrats!

[–][DEN] Gary HarrisDevelled 423 points424 points  (22 children)

2019: Giannis MVP

2020: Giannis MVP

2021: Jokic MVP, Giannis Title

2022: Jokic MVP

2023: Embiid MVP, Jokic Title(??)

2024: Embiid MVP

2025: Sabonis MVP(??), Embiid Title(????)

Idk feels like a clear pattern here

[–]76ersEpisodicDoleWhip 112 points113 points  (2 children)

Yep. I’m on board. Let’s roll.

[–]Nuggetsjcn777 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I love that there’s like 5 responses from Philly fans saying they’re down. You and me, we’re not so different after all. And tbh I knew that, I love Philly especially compared to seeing Boston in the finals again

[–][CHI] E'Twaun MooreTundraaa 673 points674 points  (53 children)

[–]BucksCupOfHotTeaa 33 points34 points  (1 child)

[–]Warriors-Bacon_King- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe the MVP was the friends we made along the way :)

[–]Nuggetsjimithelizardking 102 points103 points  (1 child)

[–]SpursGGezpzMuppy 1940 points1941 points  (59 children)

Damn I was sure Bran was gonna get it, no one else had a better story.

I’m glad I ain’t no voter and just get to watch amazing performances every night from these three superstars. They all deserve the MVP and glad to see Joel get his as it’s well deserved.

[–]RaptorsMaximumestBob 243 points244 points  (4 children)

But who had a better story than Dillon Brooks

[–]HeatMiaCannons 798 points799 points  (33 children)

Damn I was sure Bran was gonna get it, no one else had a better story.

Who is Bran the Broken in the NBA? Kawhi?

[–]HeatYouStillTakeDamage 194 points195 points  (5 children)

If he counts, Jonathan Isaac

[–]DomDomRevolution 253 points254 points  (9 children)

Nah, Kawhi has actually contributed. Bran is more like Dante Exum.

[–]ruinawish 22 points23 points  (2 children)

Why the hell is Dante catching strays in this thread...

[–]EersteDivisie 30 points31 points  (4 children)

Wasn't it Porzingis in Game of Zones?

[–]Curve_of_Spee 32 points33 points  (0 children)

In one of the first episodes, it was Derrick Rose being carried by Boozer (Hodor), but as mentioned by others, it changed.

Will still be joined by the chorus of Philly fans that just want Silver's head.

[–]CelticsBrusselSproutbr00k 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It’s a disgrace, it really is. They’ve got empty ballot boxes in Seattle. Dillon Brooks said they’re sending a box to china with him. They let David Stern cast a vote. They even gave Kendrick Perkins a vote. A shame for this beautiful game

[–][DEN] Andre Millericangetyouatoedude 27 points28 points  (0 children)

JOKER WON THE MVP, BY A LOT!

[–]RaptorsSurflover12 53 points54 points  (0 children)

[–]NBAMusicalElephant420 75 points76 points  (1 child)

Can you believe they gave the MVP to Joel Embiid over Jokic? FAKE NEWS! Embiid probably bribed the judges with cheesesteaks or something. Sad! #JokicIsTheRealMVP #NoCheesesteaksForTheJudges #MakeTheMVPGreatAgain

[–]BucksIndycarFan64 503 points504 points  (18 children)

3rd straight time someone from the 2014 draft class has won it

[–]ShowdownValue 127 points128 points  (6 children)

How did I never know that giannis embiid and joker were all drafted the same year?!

[–]Raptorsflipmode123 211 points212 points  (0 children)

Giannis was drafted in 2013, a year before embiid and joker

[–]San Diego Clippers2Blitz 83 points84 points  (2 children)

Because they're not. Giannis was 2013, Jokic and Embiid were 2014

[–]Lakersamaye2187 210 points211 points  (12 children)

Shoutout Cameroon!!! International players are running the NBA. Proud of Joel, man.

[–][PHI] James HardenFrequentDefinition9 1219 points1220 points  (88 children)

That’s my pity MVP!

[–]Celticsslyfailure 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Well deserved, but whoever didn't vote for Jokic at all should lose his MVP vote (Perkins?), even if you thought that Embiid, Giannis and Jokic weren't the top 3, the idea that any of them weren't one of the top 5 players this season is just ridiculous.

[–]Nuggetsjaomile 438 points439 points  (34 children)

Game 1 vs Boston showed how valuable he is to 76ers. Celtics were just scoring easy buckets in the paint. Celtics collapsed and Harden went back in time to secure the win, but his lack of presence was felt.

Wish to face 76ers in the finals for true face off.

[–][deleted] 174 points175 points  (15 children)

Sixers vs Nuggets is the best possible matchup, hope that’s the case and everyone is healthy!

[–]76ersTeachMeHowToTech 71 points72 points  (1 child)

It would be a fun series, Embiid Vs Jokic, playoff Murray vs Harden

[–]76ersExileOnBroadStreet 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It was a layup line for 3 quarters lol

When Embiid is in the paint ball handlers just turn around half the time

[–]Bucksmethodeum 710 points711 points  (18 children)

[–]76ers_BestBudz 63 points64 points  (3 children)

[–]HornetsContractXtension 45 points46 points  (2 children)

Lol thanks, bro. Been a great week for Philly Fans

[–]Clippersguitarhero22701 19 points20 points  (1 child)

75 -15 first place votes. They were never giving that mvp to jokic

[–]Supersonicsarebee20 71 points72 points  (6 children)

Announcing the MVP in the middle of the playoffs is weird to me. Instead of this news dropping after the regular season and Embiid getting the praise he deserves for an outstanding season a lot of people are just going to say "meh, Jokic is better he just stepped off the gas to be ready for the playoffs or he would've won MVP" because of how well Jokic is playing right now.

[–]NuggetsKangorKodos 214 points215 points  (17 children)

People are going to say a lot of nonsense and say this was voter fatigue. But the man went off this year. Incredible year, and deserved MVP, just happened to be in a year where there were 2 other people who would have deserved an MVP, but people in the future are going to act like this was some kind of robbery, and not a coin flip. Which is going to be bullshit.

[–]76ersclingbat 106 points107 points  (8 children)

In five years 99% of fans won't give a shit and any new ones will look at the stats of the three and say, damn they all had insane years.

[–]NuggetsKangorKodos 47 points48 points  (2 children)

Hopefully. I already see people saying it was a robbery though and it is just annoying.

like....do people no know what the word robbery means. If I think Jokic was 2% better and Embiid won, that isn't a robbery, that is an incredibly close race

[–]76ersthejackel225 51 points52 points  (7 children)

takes a deep breath Jokic is awesome

[–]carasc5 49 points50 points  (4 children)

I can't believe Kendrick Perkins of all people decided the mvp race

[–]jackgap 120 points121 points  (1 child)

TROEL EMBIID

[–]CelticsBrad-Stevens 964 points965 points  (73 children)

No one's ever wanted it more

From where his career started, it's remarkable

From the meme/twitter guy to a DOMINANT big

[–]WarriorsCurrymvp2 363 points364 points  (14 children)

Lots of resiliency to overcome those injuries his first three seasons. I was concerned at one point that he was going to be like another Greg Oden, but fortunately, he got healthier and he is having an awesome NBA career.

[–][OKC] Steven AdamsDeadDay 159 points160 points  (8 children)

I remember seeing a video of him jogging in Philly at night saying to some random dude "trust the process" as he ran by. He still hadn't made a splash and was coming off injury.

I saw that and just hoped he would be able to play a full career decently just to have a great comeback story. Then he wounds up being an all time great. Really awesome to watch.

[–]WartyComb39498 25 points26 points  (1 child)

The guy yelled trust the process at Embiid and he raised his fists in response

[–][PHI] Allen IversonAndrewHainesArt 19 points20 points  (3 children)

Joel has resonated with Philly so much. I vividly remember those days, he would randomly go about south Philly and play tennis or whatever. Dude rules.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (2 children)

If Jokic didn't win the last 2 he would be MVP

[–]76ersnnewman19 632 points633 points  (28 children)

Well folks, the MOST MVP race is finally over

So happy Joel finally got his and can be properly etched into this era of big men revival

[–]NuggetsSavahoodie 235 points236 points  (0 children)

Truly the MOST MVP race of all time

[–]Hornetscaptyossarian1991 74 points75 points  (11 children)

I’m excited that all Joel vs Joker debates will be put to rest and we’ll never have to hear anyone talk about it again.

[–]HotSwordfish23 24 points25 points  (2 children)

Congrats Kendrick Perkins lol

As Bill Simmons stated, the MVP award now means less than it ever has before.

MVP will be meaningless until tatum wins it, then it is suddenly more important than rings to Bill

Yet he will regret not voting for Jokic for the rest of his life?

Lol Simmons is one of the turds who always says ITS A REGULAR SEASON AWARD but then always uses playoff performances as evidence why voters got it wrong lol

So many voters revealing their ballots kind of ruins the surprise haha. We knew Embiid had a big lead at the end of the season.

Yeah it is nice for the baseball HOF since you need 75 percent of ballots and there’s so many voters, but once 15-20 reveal their NBA MVP ballots it kind of gives it away

I was at the game in March when Gobert ran Embiid off the paint in the first half, asked him to take contested middies and 3s. Embiid missed none of them, he was 7’1 Kobe. EMVPiid, well deserved!
