Every time I watch Last Week Tonight, I feel a deep sense of sadness. My mood is ruined for the rest of the day after I watch the show. I understand that John Oliver and the entire team genuinely care about the issues they report on, and the show is well-researched (although sometimes skewed in certain ways). However, despite the effort, whenever I consume this show, it leaves me feeling worse than when I started watching.
Almost every episode discusses how we are failing as a society. Although John always suggests some solutions at the end of every show, it feels futile. Most politicians care about one thing and one thing alone: money. Without it, no politician cares about what you have to say.
When I watch Last Week Tonight, it's akin to visiting an ailing family member in hospice care. I know beforehand that there will always be bad news, but I hope that the news might be slightly better than the last time.
Anyone feels the same or I am alone on this?
