Here all personal tax (and GST/sales tax) is paid to the federal government, who then distributes it to states, who then distribute to local governments and so on.

Yeah, but the weather sucks there. Not sure I've seen anything like this from the UK (thats not to say it doesnt exist).. These things considered (and unleaded is currently around a dollar a litre) we win, drop bears or not.
