I did it solo and loved it. Wifi was available, and it was a pretty empty trainride so I could change seats as I wished to get better views.
You will be surronded by retired old people if you do anything remotely fatfire just FYI. Highly recommend pretending to be poor like everyone else here says. You'll have a much better time. Do the old people fancy stuff later in life when you could really use that extra comfort.
Both are good options, it depends on your appetite for heavy hiking and having to carry all your own food, tent etc. etc. on these hikes. If you're not into multi day hikes so much, I do think the drive via 208 and then back either through F208 south or F225 is a really beautiful and fun drive, particularly if you are into 4WDing, and you can still do several long hikes around landmannalaugar which can be really amazing, and then have the comfort of knowing you'll return to a car and have your food etc. Waiting for you.
However, Laugavegur is also a really good opportunity and perhaps you won't get another chance to do the hike. Not the easiest decision to make. For me personally I'd be more inclined to do day trips but that's because I'm not so fond of multi-day hiking with a heavy bag, especially with how bipolar the weather can be. But it probably would be a very memorable experience for you to do it.
It's a tough decision, both options seem great in there own ways. Appreciate the advice!
It’s not the trains that are a worry, it’s getting to the station. The bus was just ok last year, but it’s an hour walk to the station if you have to. So that’s 2+ hours.
Bus's were packed like sardines b/c bus stops were overflowing with people, and they got stuck in standstill traffic. I'd avoid them if you could. I'm going to try to rent those e-scooters I saw this time around.
So if we were to rent scooters or even walk the hour to the train station, we'd get on a train easily enough? I know then the train to Malpenza wouldn't be as much of an issue
Yeah, once at the station it wasn't too busy. But I was there when they were at half capacity last year. May be a bit worse this year.
I had a tiny thorn in my tire when this happened to me. Was really hard to find, had to check everything thay stuck to the outside out the tire to find it
I did it in one day. I got lucky b/c the weather was amazing all day, and it was still a very hard hike for someone only "pretty active" like I was back then. With rough weather I'd definitely do it over 2 days, so try to plan to do it on a day where chances of storms are minimal.
Anything in the 6 or 8 grandstands have a view of turn 1, where you'll often see a crash and plenty of overtaking from the straight before the first turn. 6c is generally regarded as the best view of turn 1, which is also why it's the priciest.
Had the same experience at Monza last year. Flash CDC card and g2g. No one enforced masks while in the grandstands. Maybe they'd ask as you walked up into the grandstands but that's about it.
