The Crypto Bubble Burst?

My god, 10+ years on and we still have to explain why tracking non-digital stuff on a decentralized blockchain is effectively pointless when there are so many simpler, cheaper and vastly more efficient solutions.

What you want is called PostgreSQL. It's free. It works well. You can publish it publicly for anyone to make copies. You can just make checksums public if you want to protect against tampering while maintaining privacy. You can amend it if there's a mistake or a court of law mandates a change. It takes milliseconds. That's what all your centralized exchanges use because nobody wants to do anything on a blockchain if they can avoid it.

Am I in hell? Am I being punished? Is it because I don't comment my code well enough? I guess I deserve it.

The Crypto Bubble Burst?

We can't know that for sure, the market has no fundamentals to speak of. Tomorrow BTC could crash to $10k or skyrocket to $60k and frankly it wouldn't even surprise me either way at this point.

The "legit" ones is a meaningless qualifier, there's no mainstream legit use for crypto to speak of. For instance how is something like Monero that actually improves over Bitcoin tech-wise any more "legit" than SafeMoon, a shitcoin designed specifically for pump and dump? In practice they have the same utility, i.e. basically none outside of speculation.

If the market crashes the few people who are genuinely in "for the tech" will keep working at it and then maybe eventually end up with something actually usable, then it might be worth investing into it (as opposed to merely gambling with it).

Foreign Policy: Chia Is a New Way to Waste Resources for Cryptocurrency - What Bitcoin does for electricity and Ethereum for video cards, Chia does for hard disks

That reminds me of that post on the dogecoin subreddit who posted a "solar powered dogecoin mining rig" that was a plastic case with a small solar panel on top and a couple of cellphones in it: https://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoin/comments/nfb22p/my_environmentally_friendly_solar_powered_doge/

I haven't bothered doing the maths but I wonder if you could statistically mine even a single block on such a setup before some of the components break down.

Eventually that's true, but I suspect that it's way beyond the timeframe that the people in this sub have in mind.

There are roughly 5.5 billion new dogecoins mined every year. If we aim for an inflation of 3% or lower (generally considered reasonable for fiat) it means that these 5.5billion must represent 3% of the total number of coins for a total of ~180 billion coins.

There currently are 130 billion doge coins in circulation, so we need 50 billion more coins until we reach this inflation target. At the current mining rate, it'll take over 9 years. So in 2030 Doge's inflation will be somewhat fiat-like, but if you account for the billions of Doge coins that have certainly been lost so far it'll probably be a few years more.

And note that even at this point, Doge will still lose value every year like fiat does. Nobody is pumping "dollars to the moon" and there's a good reason for that.

It doesn't change the fact that 10 thousand very much not dormant coins are mined every single minute. At $500 a coin that's 5 million dollars that need to enter every minute the Doge market to merely maintain the price. That's one billion dollar every 3 hours and 20 minutes or one trillion dollar every 5 months.

Inhale, exhale

I live in Europe bro, have it your way but on my end I'd like to safeguard what little is left of our welfare state, and cryptocurrencies are not helping with this.

But hey, can I interest you in FoundingFatherCoin ($FFC)? It's about guns and slavery or some shit, you'll love it. The mascot is a bald eagle. Bullish.

How an unemployed day-trader burned by both GameStop and dogecoin ended up owning 20 billion units of a cryptocurrency known as ASS coin

20 billion ASS is... Not even .001% of the supply.

They overinflate their marketcap by having a ridiculous amount of tokens, it serves them right if it bites them in the ass with bad publicity.

The fact that every single altcoin now launches with trillions of coins, a good chunk of them burned immediately proves that cryptocurrencies have turned into Scams as a Service. There's no reason for any of it besides having a market cap in the billions even though your coin requires 5 decimals to get to a significant figure.

I mean, it worked for Doge so who knows at this point. The vast majority of altcoins created these days have meme-able names to bank on the trend, one is bound to succeed its pump-and-dump.

On cryptomoonshots at the moment I see: MoonSex, MangASS, JackieChan, SuperDoge, DonkeyStonks, KawaiiDoge, ChubbyChowChow, JUUL, CuckElon and of course WHENLAMBO.

So ASS and CUM are barely outliers in the wonderful world of cryptocurrencies.
