On the flip side, what are some teams that are surprisingly non-rivals of your team? by orc0909 in CFB

[–]DangerZoneh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, Baylor and Tech certainly haven’t beaten you frequently at all.

Like I said before, those dark decades of TCU football tend to skew a lot of records against SWC rivals because we were really not good in the late 60s and 70s, and were on sanctions throughout a lot of the 80s. Without that 24 game win streak, it’s a much more reasonable 40-28-1 record. Which, like, is still skewed very heavily towards Texas but is a lot closer. It’s why our record against Aggie is similarly bad. Substitution rules and scholarship limits played a huge factor in the struggle of those years. It made things tough on pretty much all small schools, tbh.

Overall I do think you’re right, though. And honestly, I’m kinda glad that we’re not one of those schools cough Tech cough that tries to pretend that Texas is our rival and really cares about beating us. Makes it all the better when we can win and act like it’s no big deal, because in the modern era it isn’t.

The Devious one, lol. That's just pretty normal grind to 99 agility. All of the other ones are patently ridiculous. It's like a 300 hour grind vs a few 4k+ ones

The timeframe doesn't really help TCU all that much so I could see us coming up soon. After the '84 season, we got put on pretty major sanctions that affected the program for about a decade before LT and Patterson got there

Cincy ended up ahead of TCU in the very final rankings, but going into the last week TCU was ahead. Cincy ended up ahead by a razor thin margin, but the biggest takeaway was that TCU was ahead of Cincy in both of the human polls but they were behind both Cincy and Texas in the computer polls. Cincy was ahead of Texas in the computer polls, so had Texas lost, Cincy wouldn't've made up enough ground. Agreed with what you said, though - would've been a really interesting debate to see who got to go get smacked around by Alabama.

I'm biased because my parents and a lot of my friends live in Louisville, so I definitely agree. I'd kill to be able to head back up and see a game there.

Why do protestors and rioters destroy things that have nothing to do with whatever they're mad about? by Mad_Season_1994 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DangerZoneh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really depends, but since you used the example of being shot by the police, it seems you're mainly focused on black American protests as opposed to the protests going on in France or elsewhere. In that regard, I like this quote from Martin Luther King Jr., a notable proponent of nonviolent protest.

“Urban riots must now be recognized as durable social phenomena they may be deplored, but they are there and should be understood. Urban riots are a special form of violence. They are not insurrections. The rioters are not seeking to seize territory or to attain control of institutions. They are mainly intended to shock the white community. They are a distorted form of social protest. The looting which is their principal feature serves many functions. It enables the most enraged and deprived Negro to take hold of consumer goods with the ease the white man does by using his purse. Often the Negro does not even want what he takes; he wants the experience of taking.”

Of course, this was from the civil rights movement and lacks some of the context of the modern era, but I think it really does give a bit of perspective.

It's really a testament to how strong the programs in the late 2000s MWC were. Utah and TCU respectively have remained incredibly competitive even 15 years later in their new conferences, though there were a few down years here and there. Would be really cool to bring back the rivalry and play y'all again

What are your POSITIVE unpopular MCU opinions? by ItsZenith in marvelstudios

[–]DangerZoneh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m with you. This is the hill that I’ll die on. People complain that it was too jokey and the jokes didn’t land but I think that was kinda the point. A lot jokes weren’t meant to be funny, they were Thor, Jane, and others using them as a way to hide from a much darker reality. I think that didn’t necessarily convey to people who came in expecting Ragnarok, though, and instead all they saw were just a bunch of unfunny jokes

As a TCU fan, I'm really excited to see all of the new offensive threats we have. Should be a really talented, high octane team. I don't think it'll be all that interesting from an outside fan perspective, though, especially after the first half. I'd also bet the stadium is mostly empty by the end of the third because of the heat and the fact that the game is at 11 AM.

[–]DangerZoneh 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the recent dominance over Texas has been pretty wild in a historical context. We're 8-3 against them since joining the Big XII. We were 8-39 against them from 1950-2007. From the 20s to the 60s it was actually a somewhat balanced rivalry, but Texas' 24 game winning streak from '68 to '91 really skews things.

Actively wanting to destroy the planet because you don’t like some of the people fighting to protect it is certainly a stance you can have.

What is the best clutch start by a backup Qb? by mynameisrainer in CFB

[–]DangerZoneh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the easy answer.

Honorable mention to Chandler Morris’ first start. It was the first game after firing Patterson and Duggan had gotten hurt against KSU the week prior. He comes in against Baylor of all teams in a season where they had CFP aspirations. Throws for 460 yards and 3 TDs and adds 70 yards rushing and another TD on the ground to pull off the upset. Still one of the greatest performances I’ve ever seen by a TCU QB.
