That's not necessarily true. Even with outbound you are still relaying information: fresh blocks and txs.

A transparent crypto with an industrial consensus mechanism will essentially be a CBDC. Hope you get your mining permit and you make compliant blocks!

The potential ills of an untraceable ( aka fungible) monetary system are moot. The current ills our society faces ( as manifest through ppl doing shitty stuff and involving money) is because our broken money creates a broken society.

To project our current broken society onto one built on functional, liberty preserving money is misguided. Not misguided. But something. It's like saying we shouldn't have electric cars because ah fuckit I don't feel like crafting an analogy. Maybe someone else on Reddit will.

Indeed. I think the default is to use the precomputed ones but there is a flag to not use them.

And obvi a self compiled binary doesn't have the precomputed hashes

There is a checkpoint system in place, where every transaction before a certain block is automatically assumed to be valid

I don't think this is true.

I'm aware of the checkpoint system from moneropulse, https://monerodocs.org/infrastructure/monero-pulse/

and the precomputed hashes which come with every binary release, which avoid the client having to perform the PoW for old blocks.

but the checkpoint doesn't make it assume all txs before a certain block are valid. If that were the case I doubt it would take a day to sync the chain.
