They’re just giving you constructive criticism man. It usually becomes overbearing once you start rejecting everyone’s advice, then it seems like everyone is just dogpiling you but that’s not really the case. You have some real talent, I would just take everyone’s remarks in stride and continue to perfect your craft.

Yeah man I know how that feels. And I mean like NO friends other than my immediate family. It’s not good

I mean at least you have those friends and even different friend groups. I had two or three friend groups when I graduated, then as I got older it turned to one. We mostly played games together, at least a few times a week, sometimes more. We’d still get together at least once a month to hang out or do something.

Now I’m 26 and every year that passes we’d see each other less and less and play video games less and less until it got to the point where we just no longer had any routine to get together in any way. This was the first year they missed my birthday and lately I’ve just had this feeling that my last friend group is gone and not for lack of trying. Communication faded, some people moved, some just got busy, some are just gone.

Why does it only happen at temps above 70 though? If something were hitting the fan, wouldn't I be able to hear it all the time? It's a Zotac, they're known for being loud

I feel you man. Got a 3080 Ti back in April for $1200 because I didn't think they'd go much lower. I could have a 3090 Ti right now for the same price. fuck

It almost seems like you're implying that cutting 80% of your revenue isn't a big deal because that's not profit. They've already started laying people off and more layoffs will come. There will be some major downsizing and attrition, unless they have some secret back-up plan, a lot of people are gonna lose their jobs and their livelihood.

Nvidia must have done some pretty egregious stuff to justify a move like that, regardless of whether that side of the business was profitable or not. Steve from Gamers Nexus had a really good video on the whole situation and he was actually able to talk to the CEO and other execs at EVGA.

This whole thread is just X is the only good brand then a comment replying to it saying how X is actually a shit brand.

Then you see the same thing five comments down with a different brand.

Good ol' reddit

Sorry for the late reply but thank you for another thorough response. I really appreciate it and will consider everything you've said.

I could see lots of local LAN infrastructure there, including some sort of NAS/file server, a Plex/Jellyfin server with transcoding for media, and some sort of DNS (PiHole) system, and home automation. You could get that running with minimal upgrades, assuming you already have the storage space.

This is kind of what I was hopefully going to eventually get to. Actually the only thing I need is the storage.

If it's not doing anything, and you want to play, install proxmox and go at it. If you want to keep it on Windows as the main OS, install VirtualBox or VMWare desktop. Windows is high overhead, though, so if you stay with Windows, you'll eat up a lot of resources.

I was curious about using Windows Server at home and if that even makes sense. I have experience on VirtualBox but not VMware or any hypervisors yet. And for Linux, I've only learned Kali but I haven't even got to the main Linux classes so there's still a lot more to come.

That's a lot of good information. Thank you so much. How do you personally access your server, do you use something like pulseway, direct connection or KVM switch?

Also, does it just not make sense to use Windows Server at home? Even if I could get a free license

Okay cool. Like you said with the RAM, of course their will be certain limitations but I don't wanna be too limited and I'm also just trying to think of the future.

I was scrolling through this thread looking for the NHd15 comment. The size of that one is the reason I went with the NHU12A. I was a little worried about temps but honestly it hovers around 65-70 in really intense games

People can be awful about spec-shaming here. I got my GPU before I was able to upgrade my CPU and this dude mocked me for having an "i5 9400 with a 3080 Ti" lol

No love for Kali in this thread? It's what I was taught on and I've always thought it was pretty accessible, but I guess other people don't see it that way.

[–]_TheManInBlack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with “salt nutes,” it’s called hydroponics and it’s been around since people started growing weed. It’s okay to prefer organic vs not, but don’t go around spreading inaccurate information and acting like hydroponics is poison and organic is the only “right way” to grow. PGRs are also just not used in legitimate commercial grows. I’m guessing you know absolutely nothing about agriculture or growing.

Do people really see that as a bigger leap than a processor upgrade? It's RAM. Yeah, DDR5 has slower latency but has better base + overclockable speeds to make up for it. I just wonder what people mean by a "big leap"
