I used to work in an exotic pet store and raised snakes. I always advise people never to feed the snakes in the tank where they live. They can develop what's called feeder response where the minute your hand comes in they're expecting food. Also I always advise people to keep a flask of whiskey or spray bottle with high proof alcohol handy when you're working with any reptiles. If you get bit pour it in their mouth or spray it in their mouth they'll let go almost instantly. It does absolutely no damage to them. Simple precautions to avoid (or lessen) problems.
