Calling someone broke after you asked them for money is crazy

[–]JimTheSaint 168 points169 points  (1 child)

Sure but it is also ok trying to get it back. Otherwise nobody would lend anybody money or interest rates would be 1000%

[–]brooksy54321 57 points58 points  (3 children)

how do three men, in their 30's, not have $800 between them?

[–]botjstn 35 points36 points  (1 child)

the economy is in shambles

[–]Sabbathius 51 points52 points  (5 children)

I mean, is it? I have 1,000. You ask me for 1,000. I give you 1,000. Now I'm broke, and you have 1,000. Even though you owe me 1,000, I'm still broke for now.

But there's an old Soviet-era joke about this: a man in Chukotka is standing on the shore and yelling in the direction of Alaska "You f***ig losers, you're so poor!" And another man walks up to him and and says "How are they poor? They live way better than we do." And the first guy says "They're f***ing poor, because they bought Alaska and couldn't afford to also buy Chukotka!"

[–]Kay-Knox 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I give you 1,000. Now I'm broke

Or you have more than $1000, so when you lend $1000, you don't become broke. That's how most people lend money, which is why calling someone lending you that money broke is crazy, because you are definitely broke, but they most likely aren't.

[–]suugakusha 14 points15 points  (1 child)

No, it's more like if I have 10,000 and you ask for 1,000, so I lend it to you - because I'm not dumb and I don't lend you the last of my money - so now I have 9,000 and you have 1,000. I'm not broke, I just want my money back.

[–]PrimarchKonradCurze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m Alaskan and I’ve never heard this before lol.

[–]suk_doctor 3 points4 points  (7 children)

Not everyone that asks for money is broke though. That’s where the sentiment comes from. It’s very possible to have your own money and hustle people into giving their own money away. I’ve seen it myself, from family members. I live on Red Alert thanks to them.

[–]PinkTalkingDead -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Unless you’re battling a serious addiction of some sort, hardly any adults are going to be spending their time, energy, and connections to beg for $$$

Hope your family members get better soon

[–]suk_doctor 0 points1 point  (3 children)

You forgot the fact that some people are just greedy selfish shits.

[–]KTsMom1968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]ImPaidToComment 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Apply this to student loans.

And yes, I'm putting my hazard suit on right now.

[–]KrakenBoot1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah they both be broke

[–]StockAL3Xj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's literally what the content of this post is saying.

[–]kimthealan101 100 points101 points  (0 children)

She must have lots of friends if she can sell them out for a little cash. That will change.

[–]jhk1963 74 points75 points  (0 children)

People like this are why I stopped loaning money. If I feel like helping someone out with cash, I think of it as a gift. Causes far less heartache and resentment.

[–]Klobbin 198 points199 points  (9 children)

Never give away money that you aren't okay with losing

[–]skynetempire 165 points166 points  (5 children)

I like telling my friends story. He lends money out but if you borrow money from him, you will sign a contract. Even gives you Truth in lending disclosure.

His cousin tested him by not paying it back. My buddy took him to court got a judgement then placed a lien on his bank account and garnished his wages.

My buddies family was pissed but he told his family to fuck off and mind their biz. Lol

[–]Interesting-Dream863 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Your friend is cool.

I feel like this should be on a wall somewhere, or a tattoo. Maybe in the intro to a personal finance or human sexuality textbook. So many applications!

[–]CollageTumor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can say that since you aren’t the one who borrowed it

[–]Harlequin-sama -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Never give away money

I fixed it for you.

[–]Alklazaris 35 points36 points  (1 child)

I will agree though that it's good advice not to lend any money that you would miss. Works for gambling too.

[–]nobody-u-heard-of 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've always used that rule. A friend of mine once asked to borrow a larger sum of money and I told them I couldn't loan it to them. Because it's not an amount that I could afford to lose if they couldn't pay me back. They looked at me for a while weird and thought about it and accepted it. We've been friends for like 20 years at that point.

[–]C-Kwentz-0 26 points27 points  (0 children)

"Move along"

Not without my money, bitch.

[–]Veritable-plethora 87 points88 points  (4 children)

Somebody that I paid to work for me, called me lazy. I fired him and did his job.

[–]StuckinReverse89 7 points8 points  (2 children)

To be fair, it depends on the amount of harassment and when the money was due. If you borrowed money and the person is asking for it back the next day, might be going too far.

Hence why lending money to friends and family is never good and you just have to assume you are giving the money away.

[–]OrSomeSuch 2 points3 points  (1 child)

If we're out somewhere and you're like, "I forgot to hit the ATM, can you lend me $100?" you best believe I want that money back the second we pass an ATM. I will drive you there if necessary.

If the bank doesn't trust you with a loan then why would I?

[–]StuckinReverse89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is if it was me, I would say “sorry I’m strapped for cash right now. Can we hit an ATM on the way?” If you are hitting me up for money, Im assuming you dont have any.

[–]AnchorPoint922 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bitch give me my money

[–]wasternexplorer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't give anything out that isn't free. If I loan something to somebody I take it as a bonus if I get it back. It reduces a lot of drama from my life.

[–]Sloth154 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This person clearly has never borrowed money from dangerous people.

[–]blueskies1800 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is why you don't loan money to people. Most of them don't appreciate it and will complain when you ask for it back.

[–]Another_Road 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t lend money for this reason. If I have it and somebody needs it, I just give it to them. Avoids the drama.

[–]AncientSkys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do every stupid comment on internet get posted here? You have to be really miserable to have the time in the world to search up all these nonsense.

[–]ZoharDTeach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can't afford to not get it back, don't lend it out. That way if they screw you over, you aren't in trouble and all you did was pay X amount to learn who -exactly- needs to but cut out of your life.

[–]maqryptian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

let's see how she'll like it when repo guys seize her property and she gets hit with that logic.

[–]Kelrisaith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A leech yes, but also not wrong, don't lend money to people. If you "loan" someone money expect to never get it back and treat it as a gift because 90% of the time you aren't likely to get it back.

There are obviously exceptions to it, but most cases just don't lend money, it's not worth it.

[–]StarStuffSister 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I get this from both sides-- it sucks to have someone not pay you back, but it's also annoying to have a friend that complains persistently that a third party owes them 10 bucks. Like, if it was that serious, why did you lend it to them? And if it isn't that serious, why do you bitch to me about it all the time like it's the end of the world? I will say, I hate people venting too me about people who owe them money because of this reasoning exactly-- don't loan it if you can't afford to lose it.

[–]Rnee45 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

stfu and pay back what you owe

[–]StarStuffSister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was explaining that I hate hearing people complain about money OTHER people owe them, sweetie.

Good try, though!

[–]Backseat_boss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I tell everyone I’m broke. Don’t ask me for shit!

[–]firmerJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You loaned me money and now you want it back? Whaaaaaaaa?

[–]PunchBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's some top tier "These aren't the droids you're looking for" Jedi mind trick shit right there.

[–]CorvinRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild dumb entitlement.

[–]JamboreeStevens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need it back immediately to make rent next week, you probably shouldn't have lent the money. If it's been a month and they still haven't "gotten around" to paying you, then maybe hound them for it. If it's been more than 3 months, consider the money given a gift and don't lend them money again.

[–]UnderstandingLocal30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with her. The few times I loaned money, I just assumed I was never going to get it back. The times I did, it was a nice surprise.

[–]_ssac_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's common the guy who owns several people money, but normally those lenders did not know about the others.

Posting in social media that you do not pay back your debts, isn't that bright of a move.

[–]Lunarath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I lend someone money I always ask for a specific day to get them back, and If I don't get them back by that day we're straight up not friends anymore, unless they have a very good unforeseen reason. I can't trust anyone who won't prioritize paying back borrowed money.

Whenever I've borrowed money from someone, paying that back is the first thing I do when I get paid. The priority is as high as paying rent.

[–]iloveuranus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be very surprised if this wasn't just regular rage bait.

[–]ActPrior9251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shes kind of right though. If youre lending money you need to be prepared to lose either the friend or the money. If you dont want or cant afford to lose either you should just keep it to yourself.

[–]Rigo3oh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what a pathetic selfish a-hole that doesn't want to pay back the money they borrowed would say.

[–]mtbgravelgirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Lended"🙄

[–]CynicCannibal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Why should I care about other people? I am me, not you!"

[–]ReasonableTonsup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, I don't believe that is really Rihannas uterus...

[–]Complete_Spot3771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean you shouldn’t give away money you aren’t prepared to lose

[–]sympatheticshinobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broke-ass losers who say shit like "Take the L" are just admitting they're a thief, and you should cut them out of your life like the cancer they are.

[–]sordato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well one thing is to ask for your money and other is too harass

[–]Individual_Bug_7817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you lend a significant amount of money to someone, agree to how you will be paid back (i.e. a payment schedule). If you aren’t sure about how you can trust this person (well you probably shouldn’t lend them money), but have an attorney write up a contract.

[–]annoyedreindeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine asked me for money and said (to make it simpler) that I didn’t have enough to lend. He asked me to send him a screenshot of my bank account to prove it. We’re no longer friends.

[–]Turbulent-Sail-7314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The audacity of some people

[–]ccg91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man i hate people

[–]2-timeloser2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life lesson: Never lend money you need. If it comes back, consider it a gift

[–]SteinBizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish we could stop redacting posts like these. We need to know who these people are and they need to know that we know…

[–]Saltyk917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told once “If you loan someone $20 and never see them again, it was $20 dollars well spent.” And it stuck.

[–]Illiterally_1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean could be worse, kneecaps could be broke...

[–]Alone_Lock_8486 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Imagine blowing

Up ur whole scam and asking

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.
