SCRYING -- The mysterious magic of reflections

I’m not sure if I really want to go all out with Crystal balls and obsidian mirrors - I’m just curious to learn more about the practice of scrying, who does it, what do they do it for, what’s the history behind it, and how do you choose the medium to focus your gaze? Or does the medium chose you?

Just for context on how I got here - your probably gonna laugh, it’s okay I do too: so I recently started trying to teach myself how to play D&D, I’m drawn to the wizzard archetype. Wizards use Orbs to focus their magic. So naturally I wanna learn more about Orbs and crystal balls as they relate to magic in general. I feel like this will help enhance my role playing if I can speak “somewhat” intelligently about my orb/crystal ball.

I guess all that’s to say - before I go inviting a trans dimensional medium into my home: I just want to know what I’m getting into. I can’t honestly say that I believe in whatever claimed power they posses, but I do think that this should be considered with respect.
