I haven't thought of this band in forever, and I barely remember listening to them at all. Apparently I listened to their songs 55 times between 2009 and 2012, per LastFM. For whatever reason I remembered they had a song called Crow Jane, which I didn't really like and made me not want to listen to the rest of the album.

But it's cool to see their name pop up. I'll take a listen to their other albums.

When he came on as a kid and was bullying Pronger I knew we were going to see something obscene. His hit on Mark Stone is still one of the most painful looking I've seen.

I am a Stormgate Kickstarter backer and have nothing invested in Immortal.

I played the alpha of Immortal last July and thought it had shaky bones but loved the units and races. Playing again this weekend, they've made some great improvements and I can really see a viable product. The Immortal/hero mechanics are considerably more interesting to me than the race mechanics in Stormgate, and generally the units have a lot more creativity baked in to them. I am a huge fan of the entire design of the Aru race, and the fact that they were able to make a "grotesque" race that isn't completely derivative of either Zerg or generic demonspawn.

Some of the QoL changes are really interesting and it's impressive they found a way to make it work, though some changes are more "different" than "convenient". For instance, your later production buildings might have zero units that you can build without pressing the "advanced" modifier key (space by default). So you'll build a new type of building and then hit Z to bring up the "train units" card, and you won't see any new units there. But that's something that may be confusing for newcomers but once you've played a few games it isn't a big deal. One other thing is that there's some Word Salad in their naming, so it can be difficult to know what the buildings do. For example the Murder Hollow is a building that enables you to produce and upgrade Ichor units. Similar to the Roach Warren, it's solely focused on one unit but the name doesn't indicate that at all.

Overall I'm really excited to play more Immortal.

That being said, Stormgate works much better from a technical and UI standpoint. Control is more responsive and there is less jankiness. And despite the shortcomings in the campaign and the very underbaked Celestial race design, I really liked the gameplay during the last open playtest. I haven't played much this week just because I've been playing Immortal (since that event was only for 3 days).

When I was in college I got a bunch of free stuff through those sites where you had to refer people to sign up for various trials (like StampsDotCom). I ended up getting this game for free the week it came out, and I was super excited because it looked so cool. A week later, COD4 (Modern Warfare) released and took over everything, and by the time my copy of Timeshift arrived, the servers were completely dead. I'd be lucky to find 5 people online at a time.

The single player game was OK though, and it was certainly ambitious.

Crazy how quickly we get away from what is effective. They allow a few good saves, mostly generated on chances from chaos around the net, to make them allergic to shooting under any circumstance. If they can't pass it into the open net it's never going in because the big bad goalie made a good save.

No. Don't deserve it and I don't want to become the joke Oilers franchise relying on lotteries to sniff at success. Two #1s is enough.

Zone entry is the least of our problems. We have one of the best players in 86 at using the drop pass and backed off defense to get play set up. We just don't really have a plus level shooting threat out there (with Hamilton out) and our down low play (namely Hischier and Toffoli) is not very good. Since Jack is effective playing the left point and Bratt/Luke also occupy high space, it eats into the space where one of our better shooters (Toffoli, Holtz) would prefer to set up to offer a shooting threat. Bratt being better at aiding in zone entries and having good chemistry with Jack, also keeps Timo off the top unit, even though he could potentially play the right side and give a decent shooting threat.
