The Durolle river's sound in Thiers is deafening, especially where this workshop is located. Example here

That's right next to Le Creux de l'Enfer. Let me tell you, in real life, the sound is a lot louder than it is in this video. Now imagine working all day every day a few meters away from it.

The strength of the river (along with the forests nearby) is actually why we started making knives in Thiers as early as the 1200s.

No. We’re not going to start expelling countries every time they elect a dumb fuck, otherwise no one will be left in 50 years.

It’s an Union. We make it work together. We need new regulations regarding veto and things like that but expelling a whole country for a temporary leader isn’t the way to make this work.

How to even guesstimate the cost of having a child? by phowntabir in EuropeFIRE

[–]Norua 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don’t be. Trust that having and caring for your child and learning to know him/her and receiving his/her love will be infinitely better and more meaningful than playing ping-pong two times a week (or whatever it is).

Also, it passes. The more they grow the more time you’ll get back. It’s not a life sentence, it’s a temporary sacrifice that starts at the peak.

Poland to raise WW2 reparations with German foreign minister during Warsaw visit by ImportantPotato in europe

[–]Norua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right, we’ll need reparations from Italy instead of the Roman Empire, then from Britain and of course Germany.

Let everyone make reparations to everyone! Actually… let’s pool our money and redistribute it, it’ll be easier.

We could make an Union out of this.

Time will tell. As of right now, there’s not nearly enough for him to be included in such a list, especially not anywhere close to the last two on your list.

As an ex-historian, I can say the list of genius military strategists is already very, very, very long. Depending on one’s field of expertise, the order in which you rank them may differ but the top 10 is practically always composed of the same figures.

There’s also levels to this. There’s being a great inspiring military leader, being a great strategist, having an impressive ratio of victories and losses, being able to turn the tides of war again and again, and being able to reinvent warfare itself. For exemple, figures like Napoléon hit every level and more.

Time will tell if any figure that influential emerges from this war, but I highly doubt it.

(This goes without saying, this isn’t a criticism of any current military leader’s abilities.)
