Topic just turned 18 in August and is doing an amazing job creating for himself and others in the Adriatic League so far.
I’ve been watching Paolo’s college and past season tape for the last couple hours. I truly don’t understand how he isn’t on the face of everything the same way Victor Wembanyama is. Paolo just had a rookie season on par with LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony statistically. The stats are impressive on their own for a rookie, but watching him play is a whole different experience.
Being 6’10 moving like a 6’3 guy is the most insane thing I’ve seen all day. Paolo has to be one of the 5 most athletic players over 6’8 in the nba. I’m genuinely shocked after watching it all again. He’s also got an insane bag of counters while handling the ball and getting shots off; both jumpers and finishing. On top of being a good passer and having good vision, Paolo is almost as perfect of a prospect as you could possibly want.
You guys have all seen the same stuff as I have. And yet somehow it feels like we are under reacting to this. The greatest prospects since 2000 have been LeBron, Greg Oden, KD, AD, Zion, and Wemby. I absolutely thing Paolo deserves to be on that list. Before the nba, he was a very complete prospect. Giant point forward is the most ideal archetype in basketball. We can harp on his weaknesses at the time, mainly being “just okay” defense and shooting. But all the other guys listed had weaknesses, mainly shooting. Hindsight is 20/20 but holy shit what were we thinking. There should’ve never been a debate for who was going 1st.
