Are you being dense on purpose? A tech company moving back to an SF office to take advantage of the AI boom is very very different from large retail and small businesses leaving the city due to crime / homelessness. I don’t subscribe to the doom loop narrative at all but we have to at least be honest about the issues at hand. Even the article acknowledges that the issues exist.

Nah that’s not it. The reason is that SF’s “bad neighborhood” is in the center of the city. As a tourist you’d be hard pressed to miss it. Any transit from A to B most likely skirts the edges of the TL.

Chicago, NY, LA — their “bad neighborhoods” are off to the edges, be it south side or east LA or Harlem in the north of NYC. As a tourist you’ll never step foot in them unless you majorly fuck up.

Like think about all the people who have grinded out thousands of raids, end game bosses, etc. They would also be close to “tick perfect” right? I would say these days, PvM is about as mechanically complex than PvP. You factor in that PvP concepts have largely stayed the same since game release, you start thinking about other players as “the oldest boss in the game”. Is it not fair to say that there’s a decent portion of players that have a super high amount of experience at this activity and can do things tick perfectly?

What purpose would that gain? Please tell me, pick any drop in the game, tell me why as a main, your experience would be degraded on OSRS if you didn’t get the drop within, let’s say, 5x the drop rate.

Counters have been discussed before. Just de-iron, stop complaining about self inflicted restrictions, game wasn’t meant to be completed, you can complete content with suboptimal gear, using suboptimal gear is very much the spirit of Ironman, if you’re not having fun, do something else?

Both jobs, UCSF and SF office, are publicly funded. Which means I’m paying out double 6 figure salaries here. Honestly unless she’s working 80 hours a week, there’s no way this is justified. As long as it’s disclosed and stakeholders have a voice in the decision, then it’s fine. In all those cases you listed, it is disclosed and approved. Government employees are beholden to the public. We were not aware nor did we ever approve that this arrangement could work.

If she had another full time job, I highly doubt she was good at the job. Even if she was good at her job, we now know she could have been 2x as good at the job but chose not to be. That’s fine for a run of the mill private employee, not for a government leadership position. I expect our leaders to be 100% in it.

One other thing — be direct and upfront to the L2. Tell them you’re sorry, why this happened (you’re a deep sleeper) and crucially, the steps that you’re taking to prevent this from happening again (soliciting advice for stronger wake up devices, will purchase x immediately). Offer to take their oncall rotation at a later date once you’re fully prepped.

If I’m the L2, to be honest that gift card isn’t worth much to me. With the money I make, time >>> money. And what will make me not angry is the acknowledgement that you’re working on the problem and actively trying to prevent it from happening again.

You’ve missed the point entirely. You’re putting the burden of being a good person onto the consumer. Research this, avoid that.

If people want to research beforehand and avoid fees, all power to them. But for those that don’t, withholding tip is a perfectly acceptable solution. If the wait staff have a problem with that, they should ask for the fee to be removed.
