Christian teens promoting themselves as "rebels" because they chose to "believe" has to be the cringiest thing i ever saw. by General-Compote2138 in atheism

Their persecution complex is deep and severe. Everything they do is designed to isolate you and make you feel like they're your only family.

I was told not to say the pledge in class, and it singled me out as different. Sometimes that's all it takes to start a self-reinforcing path toward being bullied and feeling persecuted.

same. I generally don't advocate playing games, but getting an honest response to this particular issue is a matter of safety.

amen. make a point to find out earlier rather than later what someone is like when they don't get their way.

I thought cupped pepperoni was just a matter of what kind of sausage casing their supplier uses?

They're just mad because they go around posturing, revving their engines, and these electric cars are beating them off the line in utter silence.

When it comes to depression, it's okay to do it half-assed or do half the job, too. Don't beat yourself up if you only do some of the dishes, or shower but don't wash your hair, or make a simple meal instead of some grand one, etc. Anything is better than nothing. You don't have to sprint, or run, or even jog. Walking first is fine. It will come to you in time.

I've been through this. They don't go out and get them, they ask you to give them a W-2 from each company you claim to have worked for. No proof, then probably no job.

Report: East Palestine soil has dioxin levels hundreds of times more than the threshold that causes cancer. by DoubleTFan in videos

[–]FiggleDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine it is, but what were the levels before the derailment? what are the levels in neighboring cities? I hate it when news stories give you a statistic without any frame of reference. Maybe everyone's soil is hundreds of times the cancer causing threshold?

I would put both of these things down to BioShock's spiritual predecessor, System Shock 2 (and then, to some degree, System Shock 1.)

Because the designers wanted you to feel isolated (it was a first person horror game), but also I imagine due to technical limitations, SS2 told the story through tons of written logs, audio logs, and the occasional NPC over the radio or on the other side of a glass window.

Why do men behave like unattractive women offend them? by Modern_Snow_White in TwoXChromosomes

[–]FiggleDee 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Worse, sleeping with an unattractive woman harms your status among men who think this way. Spurning them, being cruel, doesn't just express that hate, it gains you status too.

This is Elon Musk's response to riots in France. by CrossingVoid in antiwork

Well, I'll bear that in mind.

And I mean things from the way he insults twitter programmers, to the big promises he makes about self driving, the way he tells other experts they're wrong, such as the rescue sub situation, or his opinions on LIDAR. He acts as if no one else had ever considered his viewpoint before. That sort of stuff.

I would give him more credit if I believed him, but I don't. He has all the hallmarks of a narcissist, and I fully believe he lies about most of that, saying whatever he thinks makes him look good to his audience.

I have no way of knowing how much he does or doesn't contribute to any of these companies but I simply don't trust him to be telling the truth about any of that. The way he treats the opinions other engineers doesn't feel like someone who is, himself, an actual chief engineer (and not just in title.)

It makes more sense (to me) when you consider wealth is exponential. If someone started with nothing and applied that much effort, they might be a millionaire at best. What we're saying is that him being a billionaire doesn't make him smarter, more talented, or a harder worker than other people. But he sure seems to think it does.
