Honestly that sounds like your headcanon version of an Endgame and not a true Endgame. If after beating the game, a horde mode unlocked where you fought every boss in a set amount of time for a chance at brand new perks or upgrades.....that would be an actual Endgame. Similarly, a raid style mission like Destiny would also feel more like and Endgame.
Personally, I don't think it makes sense to judge Survivor's Endgame as bad when it never set out to have actual Endgame content outside of NG+. Side missions you can complete before the story ends aren't Endgame in my book.
