cries in Philadelphian

[–]baddoggg 574 points575 points  (43 children)

I think locam radio played up LeBron coming there way too much. It's far from the end of the world for the Sixers. They still have one of the top 3 young cores in the league.

People act like the Sixers had to win now, when embid and Simmons are only going to get better. It's all uphill for the Sixers as teams like the Lakers and Gsw will only get worse. Give it 2 or 3 years.

[–]retardvark 221 points222 points  (16 children)

Well the Lakers also have one of the best young cores In the NBA and will go hard at signing Kawhi. But it's definitely true that Philly isn't reliant on any FAs

[–]baddoggg 122 points123 points  (11 children)

They'll probably have to trade away that core if they want kawhi this year. Who knows. All I know is despite leBron this is the best it has felt to be a Sixers fan in a long time. 97.5 was fucking killing me with the LeBron or bust talk.

[–]retardvark 39 points40 points  (3 children)

Definitely, you should be very happy. Two young franchise players, a great coach and a trustworthy process. Life's good

[–]Berti15 21 points22 points  (3 children)

Still have to get passed the Celtics who are even younger.

[–]bobthebobofbob 91 points92 points  (5 children)

Hey, at least you guys still got that Superbowl trophy to help ease the pain. That's pretty rad.

[–]cromulent_pseudonym Cleveland Guardians 29 points30 points  (2 children)

I hear this as the theme from Rocky with "WAH" as the sound of every note.

Lavar Ball: 'My son still the best player on the Lakers'

[–]andthatsalright Pittsburgh Penguins 1436 points1437 points  (59 children)

Is this real? Because it feels real.

[–]JerryRiceDidntFumble 896 points897 points  (48 children)

[–]canseco-fart-box 249 points250 points  (41 children)

Too bad his dumbass is about to be traded to San Antonio!

[–][deleted] 347 points348 points  (27 children)

I'm gonna guess that Pop doesn't want anything to do with that headache.

[–]canseco-fart-box 381 points382 points  (15 children)

Pop vs Lavar is the smackdown we all need and deserve

[–]Threshorfeed 143 points144 points  (4 children)

You think pop gonna take that shit?? He's not luke Walton amigo

[–]foodmaster89 79 points80 points  (9 children)

Pop will wipe the floor with him, which I agree is something that everyone deserves to see.

[–]lovemeinthemoment 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Pop already said Nope.

[–]newaccount721 32 points33 points  (7 children)

San Antonio has already said they're not touching ball. They want ingram. Not sure Lakers will give up Ingram due to potential and uncertainty around kawhi 's health

[–][deleted] 49 points50 points  (8 children)

He's already come out and said lebron can't teach Lonzo anything.

[–]i_am_banana_man 66 points67 points  (4 children)

What an interesting mix of excellent and terrible parenting.

[–]yellow_logic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lavar has been living vicariously through Lonzo for years now.

It’s no surprise that something like this would come out of his mouth.

[–][deleted] 179 points180 points  (19 children)

LaVar will say that Hall of Fame players come to play with Lonzo

[–]Threshorfeed 79 points80 points  (8 children)

Can't wait for lonzo to be part of a kawhi package

[–]Eddie_Haskell13 34 points35 points  (1 child)

Spurs have specifically said they don’t want Lonzo. Haha

[–]henstocker 195 points196 points  (14 children)

God, I hope Lonzo is traded. I can't stand the idea of this trade giving Lavar new life, just when I wasn't seeing him in headlines every day.

[–]maddscientist 188 points189 points  (4 children)

I'd laugh pretty hard if they traded him to Cleveland.

[–]SeahawkerLBC 45 points46 points  (7 children)

Do people still talk about Lavar Ball?

[–]fartsinthedark 32 points33 points  (1 child)

They're certainly going to start again now.

[–]BevoDDS 61 points62 points  (19 children)

Same thing with Miami when LeBron left. You can't replace talent like that.

[–]Noggin-a-Floggin 156 points157 points  (17 children)

Except Miami isn't perpetually at the bottom like the Cavs always are before LeBron came along. Miami did win a title without LeBron while he was in the league.

[–]followupquestion 71 points72 points  (9 children)

That Miami team had peak D Wade and Shaq. It wasn’t the sub .500 Eastern Conference team that the Cavs are now.

[–]zirtbow 73 points74 points  (5 children)

Hey now don't bash Cleveland that hard. If they win the first game of the season they won't be a sub .500 team in the Eastern Conference for a few days.

[–]Teddy_Icewater 22 points23 points  (3 children)

Plus, now that LeBron is out of the picture, Tyronn can unleash hia true coaching genius.

[–]zirtbow 20 points21 points  (1 child)

I have a bet going with my brother in law that Lue gets fired after this season if not mid-season and will never see a head coaching position again.

[–]JBSLB 2257 points2258 points  (55 children)

Lebron joins the Monstars to form a super team to take on the Golden State Warriors.

[–]DrStrangeLoop 13 points14 points  (4 children)

The Monstars were overrated. They were playing 2 Cs and 2 PFs with an undersized PG.

[–]B_Rich 69 points70 points  (1 child)

I'd be ok with this.

[–]C3POH66 60 points61 points  (3 children)

EVERYBODY GET UP IT’S TIME TO SLAM NOW

[–]CranialFlatulence 73 points74 points  (14 children)

Whoa...that didn’t take long at all. I figured this would drag out at least another week.

Or is there some kind of free agency deadline looming that they had to beat?

[–]yeoldeniphone[S] 27 points28 points  (3 children)

I know! I was just watching ESPN and the breaking news animation flashed up... I was certainly surprised.

[–]jlt6666 Kansas City Chiefs 12 points13 points  (2 children)

I think LeBron knows that no one else in the league moves before his deal is in place. So 1) he gets out of everyone's way (letting other players have time to work their deals out). 2) gives the Lakers time to sign the other players they want to be able to make a run.

[–][deleted] 2822 points2823 points  (161 children)

So Boston can actually make the finals next year? Here's to a finals that isn't Cavs v. Warriors.

EDIT: I regret making a comment on here. I, personally have only seen the Celtics win one (I know that’s more than other teams). Was just excited because the Celtics were good last year and were stopped by Lebron in the semis. Good luck to all your respective teams and hopefully the Warriors will be stopped.

[–]organic_crystal_meth 1287 points1288 points  (95 children)

So it’ll be Celtics v. Warriors instead....All that changes is what team Steph and crew demolish every year

[–][deleted] 336 points337 points  (19 children)

Just as long as the Celtics are there! Will be fun to be in a finals.

[–]OccasionallyWitty 140 points141 points  (14 children)

Can't I just bet that all the teams will have a fun time?

[–]JTW24 109 points110 points  (13 children)

A healthy Celtics team has a legitimate chance at winning.

[–]anthempt3 58 points59 points  (10 children)

Better than anybody else imo. Healthy second Celtics are second best in the NBA.

Unless Lakers get Kawhi

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points  (1 child)

This would be insane. The final would be the western conference final. I honestly never thought LeBron would leave the east.

[–]foodmaster89 85 points86 points  (11 children)

Don’t sleep on Houston dude. They probably would have pulled it off this year if Chris Paul hadn’t gotten hurt.

[–]stichedupburns 71 points72 points  (1 child)

If your biggest ace to reach the finals is CP’s health then you already lost

[–]GF8950 Chicago White Sox 1145 points1146 points  (134 children)

Well, I’m not surprised. Combine with the money the Lakers have and that Lebron has a house in LA, it only makes sense. The only true thing is that Cleveland’s days of being good are basically over.

[–]Kittens4Brunch 552 points553 points  (80 children)

He has two $20+ million houses in LA.

[–]FREE-AOL-CDS 259 points260 points  (78 children)

I understand it’s his money but why, is one oceanfront and the other in the hills?

[–]Kittens4Brunch 93 points94 points  (19 children)

Both in Brentwood, a relatively small, really nice neighborhood in LA. Not sure about view. Not oceanfront, a few miles from the ocean.

[–]SkienceIsReal 138 points139 points  (4 children)

I was at my beach house, well its a couple miles from the beach.

[–]Gucci_God32 456 points457 points  (39 children)

nope, both in Brentwood. North of Montana baby. The value of those homes are only gonna increase and increase, that kind of real estate is the best thing he could put his liquid assets into

[–]Qwikgun_murugun 408 points409 points  (20 children)

Good for LeBron. The only real estate I get to put my liquid assets is my bedroom's carpet :(

[–]michigan0 109 points110 points  (1 child)

Die hard Lakers fan or a die hard Kobe fan?

[–]ram0h 26 points27 points  (0 children)

probably over half of laker fans are that because of kobe, so kinda the same thing

[–]grandmasterkif 23 points24 points  (1 child)

"wtf, I love LeBron now."

[–]RadioOnThe_TV 10 points11 points  (1 child)

That might be me. Im confused right now.

[–]slightlynocturnal 531 points532 points  (162 children)

Surprised he didn't take a shorter deal. He had all the leverage. Why sign for four?

[–]PM_Trophies 1078 points1079 points  (104 children)

because he found out it was really tough to get players to come to cleveland with the looming possibility that he would leave every year.

[–]TheMiddlechild08 265 points266 points  (98 children)

This. And I also believe he figured the next team he signed with he was just going to retire there so might as well just sign the rest of your career away. He has a production company and all that stuff in LA so it just makes sense.

[–]codsane 102 points103 points  (91 children)

As someone who doesn’t follow the NBA but hears about how good Lebron is, is there anyone within these next four years who could really show up and play at his level? Are there currently players that I don’t hear about as much that play at his level?

[–]biillythekid 96 points97 points  (10 children)

No, but there's no way to predict someone can put up his sort of production either. My best bet would be Giannis Antetekounmpo or however you spell it for the Bucks, but even then it's highly unlikely.

[–]sawbones84 151 points152 points  (12 children)

Hard to say, but the short answer is that it's unlikely that anyone will be the same "complete package" Lebron has been for the entirety of his career in the next year or two. A generational talent is bound to come along similar to him, Kobe, and MJ, but guessing who right now is speculation.

[–]thekeifman27 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Giannis “The Greek freak” Antetokounmpo. Once he figures out a mid range and 3 pt game, he would be the best in the league. I could see him taking the MVP and a ring if he were to join someone like Lebron.

[–]paped2 61 points62 points  (51 children)

No one is on his level, Kevin Durant is generally considered the best player who isnt Lebron. Other names that get tossed in that category include Kawhi Leonard, James Harden and Anthony Davis. Young players that could potentially ascend to elite level include joel embiid, ben simmons, jayson tatum, donovan mitchell, and others that I cant think of.

[–]ZannX 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Giannis is another young player.

[–]loyaltyElite 351 points352 points  (4 children)

[–]brookdo 23 points24 points  (1 child)

[–][deleted] 138 points139 points  (29 children)

End career there, knowing you can’t beat GSW. Try to get extra money out of being in Hollywood

[–]retardvark 93 points94 points  (6 children)

Also sets himself up for his post retirement - make business contacts, learn from Magic, etc.

[–]VenetianGreen 99 points100 points  (5 children)

He's gonna go out Kobe style. In his final game LeBron will end up scoring 115pts all by himself, calling it now.

[–]Yup767 70 points71 points  (9 children)

He won't end his career there.

He'll do his 4 years then go back to Cleveland again to finish it up.

7 in Cleveland - 4 in Miami - 4 in Cleveland - 4 in LA - 3 in Cleveland and retire at 40?

[–]RivadaviaOficial 60 points61 points  (7 children)

I would bet he’s done before that. Maybe he does one last year in CLE but honestly wtf else does he owe that city? He’s more than likely done in four, which would give him, what? a 19 year career? Well long enough

[–]Yup767 30 points31 points  (4 children)

He owes them nothing, but he doesn't really owe anyone anything.

Spends his years in LA, expands his brand even more, gets entertainment company going, maybe contends for a championship or two.

Then goes home to Cleveland to give his home town more of what they love. Playing longer on the other hand just further cements his legacy, gets all time points, gets top 5 in assists, not to mention maybe gets to play with his son?

[–]VariableBooleans 299 points300 points  (39 children)

What happens when your favorite player goes to your most hated teams?

Mutual lukewarmness?

[–]ianardodavinci 103 points104 points  (12 children)

As a Spurs fan this was my least favorite outcome as well. If Kawhi ends up signing to L.A. my hatred for the Lakers will be at an all-time high lol. At least the Eastern Conference should be more interesting.

[–]TaiGlobal 73 points74 points  (7 children)

This is the funniest thing about this. Many Laker (really Kobe) fans hated LeBron because he took Kobe's throne.

[–]retardvark 44 points45 points  (4 children)

Those are Kobe stans, (which tbf I'm also one of) most Lakers fans can respect greatness, which LeBron embodies

[–]tkronew Chicago White Sox 460 points461 points  (55 children)

Bay Area LA showdown is back

[–]DollarSignsGoFirst 124 points125 points  (48 children)

As a laker fan I’m conflicted. However I will admit I will watch more games next season the past few. So I guess that a win for the lakers.

[–]Bandana_Steve 214 points215 points  (19 children)

Bold statement here but I think this ends up a fairly big deal.

[–]own_your_life 164 points165 points  (9 children)

What is the over-under on how many days it takes Lavar to come out and say Lonzo is still best player on the team and he is the sole reason they will make the playoffs. I give it 36 hours max.

[–]The_Kelsior 59 points60 points  (4 children)

I had almost forgotten about that fool until I read this. Thanks. I hate you (not really).

[–]own_your_life 47 points48 points  (3 children)

Don’t worry, he will remind you. Remember that he called out Lebron’s kid will not be great and Lebron told him “to keep my family out of your mouth”. That seems like an awkward coworker environment.

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (1 child)

They got Stephenson too so now lebron can have his ear blown in every practice.

[–][deleted] 704 points705 points  (62 children)

[–]generalhondo 263 points264 points  (53 children)

Have you seen the Lakers the past 5 years. They haven't exactly been the favorites and still arent likely with one superstar.

[–][deleted] 394 points395 points  (35 children)

That isn't my point, my point is the talent disparity between teams in the NBA, it's so lopsided they might as well crunch the league to like 6 teams.

[–]SimpleSimon665 158 points159 points  (18 children)

Try watching top tier Spanish/Italian/French/German soccer. Only 2 teams realistically competing for the league title in each of them because of the concentrated talent and buying power.

[–]soulstare222 56 points57 points  (1 child)

the uefa champions league is funner to watch tho, i mean aside from the past 3 years it's been pretty hotly contested by numerous teams from around the continent

[–]poneil 40 points41 points  (0 children)

If you had told me when I lived in Madrid eight years ago that Atlético Madrid would make it to the Champions League finals twice in the next six years, I'd think you were joking. It's tough to follow the Champions League in the US but it's so much fun to watch.

So when is the next time a team from the east will actually compete for a title? 2025? At least this sheds his reputation of being afraid to leave the east. But the Lakers need to make more moves if they hope to compete with the Warriors (or Rockets).

[–]Kittens4Brunch 219 points220 points  (46 children)

Boston is fucking good. With a healthy Kyrie and they can compete with any team, including the Warriors.

[–]nickpapa34 Chicago White Sox 172 points173 points  (6 children)

Don't forget about Gordon Hayward

22 a game his last full season

[–]rayray15 Ohio State 62 points63 points  (30 children)

Name the best player in the eastern conference. That player is at best the 7th best player in the league.

[–]robetyarg 35 points36 points  (4 children)

Seriously? The disrespect for the Celtics is real. They took LeBron James and the Cavs to seven games even without their two best players, Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward, both 22+ points per game scorers with the ability to make plays happen on a whim. Also, Boston is one of the very few teams who has consistently been able to keep up with and challenge Golden State since their rise (2015).

[–]mrhouston844 106 points107 points  (5 children)

Lionel Richie's ugly step brother Lavar Ballsack will need to keep his mouth shut or Lebron will have Lonzo playing in Lithuania. You dont believe me? Ask the former head coach of the Cav's.

[–]Cocaineandmojitos710 30 points31 points  (2 children)

LeBron isnt playing in Lithuania tho

[–]ThatFilthyApe 112 points113 points  (23 children)

Curious how well Lebron and Lonzo will coexist. When James is on your team he will have the basketball a LOT. What good is a point guard who doesn't shoot well if he doesn't have the ball?

[–]HolyLiaison 71 points72 points  (7 children)

This is why Lonzo is going to be traded.

[–]redundead Winnipeg Jets 124 points125 points  (6 children)

Hopefully to the WNBA so we never hear from Lavar again.

[–]OwnagePwnage123 106 points107 points  (0 children)

[–]Owenleejoeking 121 points122 points  (4 children)

[–]barc0debaby 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We talking about UFC Tonight host Karyn Bryant returning to be a VJ?

[–][deleted] 175 points176 points  (51 children)

Kind of the last move LeBron could make @ 34yo

Free agents don’t want to come to Cleveland or Philly, & you can’t stay in Cleveland after losing 3 of 4 & pretend that you’re still trying hard to win.

He’s already done Miami & has issues with front office

Boston has the history but is off the table because of Kyrie (& may not have the money available)

LA at least has the history & the good locale, but I still don’t think there are enough good players out there to make a team to fuck with GSW. But he does get that LA/Hollywood exposure before retirement...might be more about that than winning to be honest.

This will get attention for a while, but then will just turn into LeBron losing again.

[–]AgoraiosBum 14 points15 points  (2 children)

LeBron being there just made the Lakers far more attractive to other potential free agents or trades - it automatically puts them into significant playoff contention.

[–]organic_crystal_meth 148 points149 points  (3 children)

“He got me” LeBron said of the Lakers’ free agency pitch. “That f***ing Magic convinced me.” Lebron added, “He’s so good,” repeating it four times. He said he wanted to add the Lakers to the list of teams he’s lost to the Warriors with in his career.

[–]ExtemeFilms 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Cant wait for everyone who was shouting “Cavs Nation” throughout the years put on yellow jeresys and claim theyre LA fans

[–]gregallen1989 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Your heard it here first, Lakers will trade LeBron to the Spurs for Kawai and a first round pick. Lakers will then trade OKC for Paul George and give them Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, and that first round pick they got from the lakers. Kobe will then announce his unretirement and laugh as he wins another ring while LeBron is stuck on the Spurs. Kobe played the long game.

[–]Trick_Enberg 93 points94 points  (35 children)

Congrats to the Celtics on their 2019 Eastern Conference Championship.

As for LeBron, I have no earthly idea what he's thinking. The Spurs aren't going to help create another superteam by trading Kawehi to the Lakers, so he's going to have to make due with...who? Ball? The Lakers are younger and a little more talented than the Cavs, but does anyone really think that supporting cast has a chance against the Warriors? Or even the Rockets?

Maybe he knows something we don't, but I really can't see him getting any closer to a title in LA than in Cleveland. If anything he's decreased his chances because now he potentially has to go through Golden State and Houston.

This move has very little to do with championships IMO. I think it's strictly about building his "empire" whatever that means.

I think this was more of a family and life decision more than anything else. I don't think this is about putting together a team like they did in Miami. I think he just realized it'd be better for his family

If they don’t get Kawhi this year they’ll get him next year as a free agent.

And honestly the Spurs aren't stupid if it comes down to getting nothing for kawhi (him leaving next year in free agency) and getting a decent deal done for him they will make that deal

Celtics should make the finals every year now

James thanked his home area in an Instagram story. Saying in text overlaying a photo from the Cavaliers' 2016 NBA title victory parade, "Thank you Northeast Ohio for an incredible 4 seasons. This will always be home."

Classy statement from James, no doubt all Cavs fans will handle this completely rationally.

So when do the Cavs fans start burning jerseys this time?

[–]Kittens4Brunch 284 points285 points  (3 children)

Most are okay with it this time. He kept his promise and won a title for "The Land".

[–][deleted] 57 points58 points  (2 children)

Cavs fans I see seem a little pissed that he signed a 4 yr deal though. He never gave the Cavs that kind of stability.

[–]Kittens4Brunch 71 points72 points  (1 child)

He needed to sign 1+1 deals with the Cavs to keep that motherfucker Gilbert in check.

As a fan I have to say most people are sad but understand. He brought us a championship so hopefully no jerseys will be burned this time around. And he didn’t take his sweet time with an announcement. He’ll get a standing ovation when he plays at the Q.

[–]RapidBoxcar 42 points43 points  (3 children)

He didn’t rub it in our faces with an hour long ESPN special this time, and he kept his promise to bring a championship here.

LeBron James is joining the Los Angeles Lakers on a four-year, $154M deal!

$18,509.62 an hour, for a 40 hour work week. I would have to see the benefits, but I think I would take that job. /s
