Authors for Informed Comment are typically high-powered professionals with higher degrees and/or extensive publications in national, prominent venues such as The Washington Post, The Nation or e.g. Salon or Truthdig. Persons without such credentials are discouraged from submitting. We have a narrow set of beats, which can be seen by reading Informed Comment daily for a few days. Topics beyond those beats are not typically entertained. No tips on dieting, please. Those who wish to submit op-eds for consideration must send an inquiry first, explaining who the author is and establishing bona fides, and making the pitch. Volunteer submissions of entire columns will be deleted unread. Repeated such submissions will result in the author being blacklisted and marked “spam.” Academics with original information or interviews on Middle Eastern politics, U.S. foreign policy and green energy issues are encouraged to make inquiries. Likewise, we are glad to see the resumes of experienced foreign correspondents.
We seek out topical, original opinion pieces that make a single point and run 800-1000 words. We are currently able to pay an honorarium per piece of $100 (via Paypal only).
Informed Comment a good site at which to have one’s work seen and distributed. Readership is hard to estimate because email forwarding and mirroring cannot easily be measured, but the site gets millions of page views each year. It is well read in policy circles and among foreign policy and area studies thinkers.
Publishers who would like to have an entry mirrored at Informed Comment are welcome to inquire, and would receive a link back and credit.
Likewise, IC has had success in bringing books to the attention of readers by offering authors the opportunity to write an op-ed on some burning issue in the day’s headlines that is related to the book. If you are a publisher or author looking to publicize a recent title, please submit via the form below. Please note, however, that we are not looking for book summaries or synopses, but rather, an original opinion piece.
Please use this Contact Form for submissions.
