Being civil means fostering an environment of discussion where everyone is free to post. Sure, some banter, trashing talking, and overall ball busting is to be expected as this is a sport subreddit. What we mean by being civilized is that you do not downvote based on fandom, refrain from flamebait, homophobic/racist/sexist/intolerant/ slurs, keep politics out of the sub etc. Just be respectful.
To make sure everyone has time to watch fights, spoilers about the winner of a fight, the score, the fight's length, or things that happened in it (ref controversy, knockdowns, etc) are not allowed for 24 hours. Fight video or spoiler articles can be posted, but must have generic titles and must be marked as spoilers.
Moderators manually approve to screen out reposts, non-boxing content, and low-effort posts that clutter up the sub. Some examples of low-effort content include:
questions that can be answered by Google (e.g. When is Golovkin's next fight?)
social media posts not related to boxing (e.g. Floyd Mayweather at the club)
links to sites that steal/aggregate content from legit boxing news sources
posts likely to engender uncivil commentary (e.g. Fighter X is only popular because he's Race Y)
Moderators make fight threads to avoid duplication and clutter on fight night. If there's a smaller card that you think was missed and you'd like to make one, message the moderators to ask.
Personal attacks of all kind do not contribute to discussion and will be removed. This also counts for PMs. If a user sends us proof that you're harassing them in a PM from a discussion that began on r/boxing, you will be banned.
Attacking a fanbase is prohibited. There's a fine line here between criticizing how a fanbase reacts and attacking them. A good example is criticizing the accomplishments of a particular fighter with actual evidence of why an opponent wasn't as great of a win as perceived. A bad example is something like: 'Manny Pacquiao was never that good thanks to the marketing machine and all you pactards bought it hook line and sinker.' Instant removal on that one.
Do not ask for streams or post them here. If you are new (we'll judge this based on your account age) we will send out a warning. If you do this on a regular basis you will be banned. Those posting streams will also be banned.
Knowingly spreading misinformation of any sort makes it harder for this sub to operate effectively and increases the workload for the moderators. Be sure to use reliable sources and do your research before posting. This applies both to stories about boxing as well as anything off-topic, IN PARTICULAR COVID/VACCINE-RELATED.
Any post or comment that is seen to be spreading blatant misinformation will be subject to removal without warning and the poster may be subject to a ban.
Self explanatory.
