Posts about Movies
Iโm currently at 64% (604 out of 931) and Iโve watched most of the rarer flicks on the Library of Congressโs National Film Registry. The only films I havenโt seen yet that are not seemingly available online are:
1.) The Girl Without a Soul (1917)
2.) Nicholas Brothers Home Movies (1940)
3.) With Car and Camera Around the World (1929)
4.) Brandy in the Wilderness (1969)
5.) Hours for Jerome (1962)
6.) The Exploits of Elaine (1914)
7.) George Stevens World War II Footage (1946)
8.) Heroes All (1920)
9.) A Virtuous Vamp (1919)
10.) Lady Helenโs Escapade (1909)
11.) The Revenge of Pancho Villa (1932)
12.) Commandment Keeper Church, Beaufort, South Carolina, May 1940 (1940)
13.) Manzanar (1972)
I'm expecting copies of films 11.) through 13.) to come in through my library's interlibrary loan service. As for films 7.) through 10.), I am aware that copies exist at the Library of Congress.
I'm under the impression that a copy of 1.) exists at the George Eastman Museum Archives in Rochester, New York; 2.) and 3.) exist at the Academy Film Archives in Hollywood, California, 4.) exists at the UCLA Film and Television Archive, 5.) exists at Canyon Cinema, San Francisco and SUNY Binghamton, and 6.) exists at the Wisconsin State Historical Archives in its complete 14-film set. 5.) might be more difficult to access though because I'm skeptical it's permitted to be seen for personal viewings given the director's peculiar (and in my view exclusive and de-facto elitist) artistic proclivities against making his film accessible outside of a selective theatrical screening.
I found most of these locations through this link and verification through WorldCat or additional Google searches.
Has anyone watched any of the above films and do they know of any easier (preferably online) way to access them? I personally find it to be a shame that any film selected for the National Film Registryโ"showcasing the range and diversity of American film heritage to increase awareness for its preservation"โshould be so difficult to find.
