Experimenting with Migrating from Fedora Workstation to Fedora Silverblue by whiprush in Fedora

[–]Sweet_Score 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason why I don't switch is because of wine. I heard it is hard to set on silverblue than workstation and there is an app I use with wine. Also I don't know how to set Nvidia drivers and codecs while it's really easy in workstation.

You can switch workspaces with super key (win button) + mouse wheel up/down.

Fedora plans to drop X11 entirely for KDE Plasma 6 by xXConsolePeasantryXx in Fedora

[–]Sweet_Score 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's better to drop X11 now so the development for Wayland will be more focused than ever. Yes, there will be initial problems maybe a lot of but eventually they will be fixed. I mean Apple does this a lot of times. Imo, all of the big known major distros Ubuntu and Fedora should drop X11 entirely. So that developers will focus on Wayland now.

Wayland is not the future, it's the present. X11 is the past.

Show your distro some love... What is your favorite Linux distro and DE and why? And what do you mostly do with your distro? by Reasonable_Feeling65 in linuxmasterrace

[–]Sweet_Score 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Fedora is my personal favourite. I just love vanilla Gnome and Fedora is the only DE that comes with vanilla Gnome out of the box without any hassle.

I tried Arch, Endeavour, Manjaro, Ubuntu, Pop_Os, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Fedora spins, OpenSUSE, Linux Mint and didn't like any of them.

Arch takes so much time to get so many basic things. Endeavour while good still arch based and fedora is a more stable rolling distro than arch. I also like flatpak and fedora comes with flatpak out of the box. OpenSuse, it just installing is harder than fedora imo. I didn't like its installer. Others Ubuntu, Pop Os etc., I didn't like the changes to Gnome.

For Desktop Environments Vanilla Gnome is my favorite. I tried Kde, Mate, Cinnamon, i3, Openbox, Sway, Xfce, Lxqt, Lxde and I just didn't like any of them. If not for Gnome, I wouldn't switch to linux probably, Tiling window managers are not my cup of tea and xfcem lxqt etc. feels so old even if you customize, Kde feels like an imitation of Windows and didn't like it. But gnome does its own thing and I love it.

Not really, I always get a checksum error at 4.8% if I write it with fedora media writer on windows (no problem on linux though). But never had this issue when I wrote it with ventoy. So I use ventoy from now on

I need my FIRST distro. by Silent_Entry9944 in FindMeADistro

Imo, Fedora is the best one to use. I also like vanilla Gnome which you can only get it easily only on Fedora. (And maybe on endeavour but I don't recommend any arch based distro for a new user)

You have some learning curve (about 10 minutes) but after you get used to Gnome workflow, there is no going back. Just learn to press win button aka super key and you are good to go.

Other Desktop environments and window managers are either so windowish or just doesn't feel right for me. I tried Kde, xfce, cinnamon, i3 and sway and personally didn't like any of them.

Internet is way too slow on Arch! by Sweet_Score in archlinux

I don't know how to change mirrors. Also this is the first time this happens. I installed arch before with no problem at all without changing a single mirror.

Seriously, arch elitism is not only rude for newcomers, it's absolutely unjustified (rant) by Velascu in linux4noobs

I didn't ask it on arch, I asked on a vim subreddit. And I have already looked it up on google and couldn't understand the answers I found.

That's the exact reason why I ditched arch altogether. Arch was really a great distro and has a great wiki but wiki is too long and sometimes it's too complicated. I mean look at nvidia page, it's way too complicated to install nvidia drivers. I could not understand it. I mean as a user, I don't have to know which one I should do and which one I don't have to do. I mean which ones I need to do to install the drivers? It's too complicated and way too complicated. Make another thread for these steps that aren't necessary who just want to install drivers and nothing else instead making it this complicated with unnecessary stuff for people who have limited knowledge about linux.

I really liked vim, i3 and arch all but the community of these are so toxic (not all btw, there are people who try to help you and I can't thank them enough). I mean not all people are tech pros who have unlimited hours to spend one sole problem and they don't have to.

I recently asked a question about how to copy paste between browser and vim and a lot of people told me to search instead of asking such basic problems. I mean I always search and I did but couldn't find the answer on the internet and the results I found I couldn't understand them either. Same for vim and i3.

If we don't help new people who are trying to learn a new system that looks nothing like any other system, you need help otherwise there won't be much new users and if there is no new users, these things won't be priority for the developers and that means it won't be developed much.

What do you recommend to use instead of xterm? I use i3 and couldn't find a terminal app that looks good on i3.
