The AMAs that we had here in years past were great. Having that line of communication between the players/club and us regular jabronis is great. Beyond that, I'm not really sure what much else reddit is good at.

Going to reiterate a concern I had in the original thread. This subreddit isn't a supporters club, its a fan forum. My local supporters club meets in person, we all know each other somewhat, and there is some transparency about who the leaders are. If I felt like stepping up and being an organizer (which I don't) I could by really just asking to be involved. That's not really how this place works. The people who are mods here are mods for unknown reasons and there is really no criteria for removing a mod, unless you lot decide to oust one of your own. In the context of a forum, that makes sense and has kept things pretty tidy around here. Within the context of an organization that purports to speak for its membership, that is less than ideal.

Separately, mods are unpaid. While its probably fun to talk with the club and organize this sort of thing, it is still a responsibility that could turn into a burden. Nobody here pays dues, so its not like we can support the person talking the laboring oar with money for pints.

As a fan forum, it makes sense to have a relationship with the club, but I think its important to have some transparency about the nature of the relationship. So far, you all have done a nice job with that. Where I think things could be fucked is if this sub starts acting as a supporters club.

We fully agree. Will be clear that while our conversation was cordial, we reiterated concerns and there were areas that we disagreed with the club upon. We aim to keep our current stance of separate but cooperative where mutually beneficial.

We had a good chat with Johnnie and Mark, and we've relayed it all here. We're excited for what we can bring you all

Where I think things could be fucked is if this sub starts acting as a supporters club.

I don't foresee this happening personally. We've been quite clear that we're not interested in allowing the club to control anything about the sub including what we say and what's allowed to be posted.

[–]pupperines 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Are you guys receiving any form of payment from the club for holding this relationship with them?

[–]bmoviescreamqueenIf we win the league i'll get an Arsenal tat 13 points14 points  (2 children)

None. Just took a half hour of our time.

[–]pupperines 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Sounds great, sorry just dislike a financial conflict of interest within fan forums

For sure, I wouldn't like it if people were being compensated for something like this, especially behind the backs of fans.

The thought of ESR sitting at home, replying to some prat called Gregregreg1234’s thread on how an infamous r/gunners user will nutmeg Gabriel and injure Odegaard all the while having a “Granti-vaxxers get out of my club” tag really cracks me up

I wonder what the r/gunners 5 a side team would actually be. Would be a hilarious side that’s for sure.

Henry lurks on the sub and captains our side

    [–]hiatus_ 15 points16 points  (18 children)

Are you just constructing a team of the most notorious users, or a 5 a side team that would genuinely get on? The former is easy to do, the latter creates more interesting questions.

You'd have to decide early doors whether the 5 a side would be Arteta In or Out otherwise there would be infighting within the team. And yes, I find this infinitely more interesting than the nth discussion about our forward line permutations.

    [–]dhiaizkThierry Henry 16 points17 points  (17 children)

A 5 aside team that gets along is boring, I want absolute mayhem tbh

    For maximum carnage:

ReturnOfBenjenRyan, AfricanRain, DankBrownBoiv2, DaGetz and _mas17

Who sits on this board to influence these decisions?

    [–]GetPhkt7 Layer Nachos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IIRC it's a combination of representatives from some of the larger Arsenal-related fan organizations, plus a few big wigs from Arsenal. I think it includes reps from Arsenal Supporters Trust, Gay Gooners, Arsenal Young Fans Group, etc.

More of a way for the fan reps to have direct access to the big wigs

Was a great experience to chat to Johnnie and Mark who took time out of their busy schedule to meet with us. Think it's important to note the transparency they had with us, was a very honest chat (at least in my opinion).

For some context on why we chose these questions specifically, the importance for us in this initial chat was to make sure both ourselves and the club were on the same level and also to get affirmation on some of the doubts that led to us cutting ties in the first place, that's why the sub was kept sort of in the dark about this one.

Hoping in future we can get some views from the subreddit to take forward so it's not just ourselves as the Mods saying and asking whatever we want <3

      [–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (1 child)

it’s important to remember that financial realities exist

When I read this, I see "we will literally accept anything if the price is right". I mean, I probably knew that was the case already but still.

Their answer to this question was basically a diplomatic way of saying "lol no".

they have introduced the Arsenal Advisory Board which recently held their first meeting. Any large decision .... would have to go through them first, although ultimately the decision would rest with the board.

So, in other words, it's meaningless. The board will just ignore any decisions they don't like.

      [–]jbrownks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well…we can count on St. Pauli still

      [–]lechechico 5 points6 points  (0 children)

      [–]tfwnocalcium 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Lmao first post after reassociation with the club and they're defending josh Kroenke and the super league. Pull the plug again pls

      [–]Malcolm_TurnbullPM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

meh, it's understandable from the position that being one of the teams that pulled out, meant we took a spot away from a team that would not. on top of that, we've had money to burn on players, i wish we had josh in the late 2000s/2010s, seriously imagine all those seasons we were a striker/cdm short of challenging. we still are, but it's no longer for lack of money or buying. i'm not really sure what josh has done wrong aside from being ignorant and trying to change that.

      [–]classicdirtysprite 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Why yall keep banning people for having opinions on players?

      [–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (5 children)

I don't think this sub is any different now than it was when there were occasional AMAs with players

      [–]anasparekhCliff Bastin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as long as they don't try to influence or limit our conversational freedom with regards to arsenal than its all good, the AMA was good, the tactics thread was also good

[–]bmoviescreamqueenIf we win the league i'll get an Arsenal tat[M] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I think there is something to be said about having communication with fans and acknowledging a huge platform of them. Johnny is an avid reddit user which is why he even noticed us in the first place and knows what an important community it can be. Other clubs' mods envy the connection we have even just for AMA purposes, but overall, I think this is the direction clubs should be going in. If they want to be for the people then they have to be aware of what the people in big communities are saying and desire.

      [–]romase 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Not if they are making sure they can veto your posts about the comms with the club and if you guys are putting out PR pieces for them in this Q&A. Keeping things organic and full of trust works both ways no?

Sorry guys, I know it’s exciting to be involved with the club at a higher level but open your eyes a little

[–]bmoviescreamqueenIf we win the league i'll get an Arsenal tat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They are absolutely not and never have vetoed posts to the sub. In fact, as I said in one of my other comments, we told them we do not intend to let them do so and they agreed, they have no interest in doing so either. A transcript of the Q&A was for transparency.

"In terms of communication, Mark brought up that between Josh and Vinai (and previously Gazidis) Arsenal higher ups communicate more than any other club in the big 6. Josh’s public appearances and interviews are more than what any club owner or family member has done. As we have heard before, the biggest reason for more communication recently vs before is the Kroenke’s not having 100% ownership and control of the club until 2018. Unfortunately the model of a “local lad” making it big and buying his club and funding it is no longer the way of the Premier League, but Josh is committed to being more visible and forthcoming."

What a load of bullshit. They could have communicated and invested earlier, but instead they brought austerity in as part of their power play with Usmanov, or just because they're greedy and wanted to hoover up profits. This statement is dangerous to take at face value.

"The club knew that it would not be a popular decision but the train was leaving the station and as the club have stated before “What do we want, a super league with or without Arsenal. The train was leaving the station and a decision was made.” The club felt it was in the best interest of the long-term future of the club. Additionally they learned to very quickly admit their mistake and pull out, even if from a legal perspective it’s a longer process. Additionally they have introduced the Arsenal Advisory Board which recently held their first meeting. Any large decision, things like a super league, moving from Emirates, etc, would have to go through them first, although ultimately the decision would rest with the board. Finally the reaction to the super league reinforced what the club already knew. Football clubs are about the fans, and every decision that the board makes is made with the clubs best interest at heart."

This is also bullshit, we all know that the Kroenke's were at the forefront of trying to implement the Super League, it goes right along with their business model of maximising revenues while minimising effort and competitiveness. Remember Kroenke was supposed to be one of the directors of the Super League of it ever got off the ground. This proves that they're going to try again when our guard is down.

Don't fall for the PR people, the Kroenke's are still the worst owners in the league and we shouldn't trust a word out of their lying greedy mouths.

      [–]22oldforthisshit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. Most of those answers seemed vague, non-commital, and absolved themselves of any blame. "We would consider implementing values, buuuuut we have a club to run so won't". Well Dortmund is run much better than this club at the moment, and was still able to introduce a Code of Values. And is also having a lot more success on the pitch...

      [–]jbrownks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s hyperbole and I agree with the general vibe, but Kroenke’s aren’t worse than Newcastle or City.

      [–]pupperines 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Are the mods receiving any form of payment for managing this relationship? I feel like this should be disclosed as it’s going to impact the sub if we aren’t actually independent of the club

The club has no hand in the posts on this sub nor do we remove them to appease them. We made it clear that if someone wanted to make “arteta out” their every comment they are allowed to do so and the media team agreed that they have no interest in policing what is said here.

      [–]anasparekhCliff Bastin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think some post are removed because they should be in the daily discussion

      [–]VijuJack 1 point2 points  (1 child)

As a long time fan, far away from The Emirates, I saw the gooner community increasing leaps and bounds after Wenger took over. The club's values and DNA struck a cord with those of us who are international fans and honestly speaking, we saw these values eroding after the Kroenke's came on the scene. It is a fact that they dismantled the basis of our success by taking the easy route, which are as follows: a. Dismantling our scouting team and replacing them with money grabbing agents to buy players quickly. b. During Covid, they made several staff redundant while Kroenke's built a multi billion dollar stadium in USA. c. Treating players badly as though they are commodities... poor man management all around. d. Whether the local fans agree or not, sacking Wenger is a crime the management cannot easily explain away, with stupid board room politics. Imagine a fraud like Raul running our club for a while!! e. Have proper footballing people at the helm, not an accountant as a CEO. We have Dein, remember???

These are constructive criticism from a fan of 40 years, that fell in love with a club playing far far away. Bring back the family/community feeling instead of putting out wishy washy statements.

[–]AhhBistoGunnersaurus Fan Club 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing AMAs is great but you should have more than just players do them, there are perspectives at the club we've never heard before because people haven't been given a platform for it.

I know how the AMA stuff tends to work as I moderated a large sub myself and saw the process, but telling the club we would like to hear from people like Stuart MacFarlane and Steve Round wouldn't do any harm unless they have plans to do that already of course.

Is there any chance the women's team will get any AMA's in the future too?
