I gotta say, Tim is very good at talking to dignitaries. First Biden, now Obama.

Inter & Roma interested in Yedlin? by GoldenRy007in ussoccer

[–]RedRavens 3 points4 points

I think Yedlin would be perfect in a 3/5 defensive system as a wingback. I hope some Italians are watching!

Does anybody have a link/gif of Yedlin's skill run towards the end of extra time? by [deleted]in ussoccer

[–]RedRavens 0 points1 point

Could you resubmit this as a text post? Having "yedlin" as the link is confusing the filter.

Pick your starting XI and formation for the 2015 Gold Cup based on what we've just seen. Here's mine. Thoughts? by Papalew32in ussoccer

[–]RedRavens 4 points5 points

The 5-3-2? I'm not sure how well that would work seeing as almost everybody in the States and in Europe (bar Italy) use 4 defenders. It could work though. I would probably switch Dempsey and Green though.

ESPN's projecting the US lineup for the 2018 world cup 1.0 (Insider, team posted in comments) by theaficionadoin ussoccer

Shouldn't Green and Yedlin be switched? I know it's semantics but Green would be the one to cut in and Yedlin would be the one to stay out wide and cross. I really hope Green bulks up because he is looking very good.

I thought back to England vs Germany in 2010 when Capello brought Heskey on for Defoe, and I thought Jurgen was throwing in the towel as well. Damn Julian Green for giving me hope. Wonderful strike though.

Gold Cup is usually fringe players (Corona, Donovan, Diskerud, Orozco, Wondo, etc) so they can get a good look. Confederations Cup is almost always a full strength roster.

The United States deserved to lose. Tim Howard did not. by HTCGMin ussoccer

[–]RedRavens 1 point2 points

Well we didn't have anybody to give the ball to. Lots of times when we were defending, you could see Dempsey drop into frame, meaning that all 10 field players were within the same relatively small box. How are you supposed to get out? In theory, having Altidore meant that he could play upfield, receive passes with his back to goal, and allow onrushing midfielders and fullbacks a second or two to burst forward and receive his ball into space.

Not saying that it was a certainty, but that's the theory behind it.

"Deserve" is a word that's thrown out a lot after a match. This team "deserved" to win. That team "deserved" to lose. Ultimately, not having a like-for-like replacement for Jozy bit us in the ass. I think it was a gamble by Jurgen to bring a variety of strikers (Johannson - willing to take players on, Wondo - poacher, Dempsey - withdrawn forward) and I don't think he foresaw that we would need a Jozy replacement 20 minutes into the tournament.

There's also a question of whether or not Jurgen overtrained the team, seeing as two European-based players got more or less the same injury at the same time in a match. Once we can develop the technical ability, we will be a force to be reckoned with. We've already got the defensive ability and the never-say-die attitude.

That's the second European-based player to get a hamstring injury about 20-25 minutes into a game. Did Jurgen overtrain the team?

Just a note OP, [](/captain) gives you a nifty little armband to put by Dempsey and Kompany.

I believe Bedoya played as a CAM sometimes with Nantes this past season.

Grant Wahl says that Beckerman is healthy. Yeah maybe that's it.

Oh I'm dumb, I totally missed that Beckerman wasn't in. I guess Cameron slots in where Beckerman used to be.

My guess is Cameron slots in to RB to defend 1v1 against Hazard and Fabian plays RW. Wait. Both Zusi and Bedoya are playing. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON.
