Insider Gaming sources have revealed that a Metro Exodus Sequel by 4A Games is well into development and is fully playable.

4A Games have been very transparent in the past that a new Metro game is coming, with Insider Gaming sources suggesting that the game is now fully playable. Such details suggest that the game could be revealed later this year, with a tentative release window of 2024 if Metro Exodusโ€™ reveal and release schedule is anything to go by.

In 2020, 4A Games announced via its website โ€œItโ€™s no secret that we have already started work on the next Metro game. Using everything weโ€™ve learned from the last 15 years, weโ€™ve set our sights even higher โ€“ the next title is being built for Gen 9 consoles and PC, with a complete overhaul of our engine and renderer to take advantage of the new power, storage, and hardware supported ray tracing afforded by the new consoles.โ€

Details on what the game entails are scarce, but it was said that the game starts the player off in a dream sequence, where youโ€™ll then wake up at your base of operations. Gameplay will follow the classic Metro formula of stealth, crafting, looting resources, and more.

The developer also revealed in 2020 that the team is โ€œcommitted to delivering a great story-driven single-player experience; this is what the Metro series is founded on. As a studio, we want to constantly push ourselves to create bigger and better games, but we also listen to what the fans are saying, and we know whatโ€™s important to you. We take our responsibility to the franchise seriously, and we think youโ€™ll be excited about our plans for the next chapter.โ€

Just a few days ago, I've finished Metro Last Light (Redux) and I have some thoughts that I want to share with.

When I've completed Metro 2033, I though that it was a decent, really climatic, yet kinda low-budget game with somewhat ragged mechanics. But I liked it anyway. Now, after finishing Metro: Last Light, I see a huge progress that developers made. Gameplay is much, much better. Game kinda reminds me of Valve school of gameplay and level-design (mostly Half Life 2). You know, in each location, we are doing something new, something different. One time we can sneak past the guards, another time we shoot them, we drive through the metro using some kind of a vehicle, sometimes we scavenge and explore or simply listen to what people say on stations and so forth. In comparison to Metro 2033, Last Light is designed much better and 4A Games seems to know how to keep the player interested.

People from 4A Games are learning pretty fast. I would compare it to what CD PROJEKT RED accomplished. They've made good, but not so polished and kind of niche game. Sequel was much better in matter of storytelling, mechanics and technicalities. It also sold much better. Then we had famous Witcher 3, which is a gem and sold milions very quickly. Do you think that 4A Games follows similar path? Their first game was ok, then we had a better sequel, which sold way better. What do you guys think? Does 4A Games have a chance to become a really serious player in video gaming industry and make a real hit?
