Government of Canada Disclaims Association with Pittsburgh Steelers Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada

OTTAWA, CANADA – September 18, 2023– The Government of Canada wishes to clarify its stance and formally disclaims any association with Mr. Matt Canada, who currently serves as the Offensive Coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League (NFL).

Canada has been made aware of recent media coverage regarding Mr. Matt Canada's role as the Offensive Coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the performance of the team's offense under his leadership. While we respect the right to free speech and freedom of expression, it is evident that Mr. Canada takes this way too far with his play calling as it has been marked by significant challenges especially on 3rd and long.

The Government of Canada wants to make it explicitly clear that Mr. Matt Canada's performance in his capacity as Offensive Coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers does not reflect the competence or capabilities associated with our nation. The recent struggles of the Pittsburgh Steelers' offense have not gone unnoticed by the broader football community, and these challenges are not indicative of the excellence we expect from representatives of Canada, whether in sports or other fields.
