Rash on my neck is because the chain is fake. Hand broken so Iโ€™m dictating to my lovely intern. Iโ€™ve been a reddit fiend since college this should be fun.

ANSWERING QUESTIONS AT 5PM CST

PROOF: https://www.instagram.com/p/ByV4Tq1Jybs/

EDIT 1: answered a bunch but imma keep going baby

EDIT 2: edited/recommented some stuff because i typed some bad words and the comments got hidden

EDIT 3: found iowa racist beatdown/ jail gravy vid lol this is embarrassing https://streamable.com/rd8og

EDIT 4: i typed out this whole long story but it wont show up in the comments and i'm sick of telling this story lol:

"alright so both times i got arrested in Georgia were super lame. the first time, i was at a house party in this super sus deep south/incesty part of Georgia (sorry for stereotyping, its probably decent, i just met the wrong people there.) it was on the same river where Deliverance takes place if that helps you picture it. didnโ€™t know the kid whose party it was but there was like 12 of us there. his mom found out and called the cops, saying there were burglars in her house. the kid was super xanned out and didn't tell anybody that she called. that town gets no crime love at all so the police department got all excited and sent 7 cops to the house with dogs etc. we were drunk and underage (i just turned 18) so we all ran and hid in the woods. I was hiding in various parts of this huge backyard for probably 5 hours, hearing my friends get picked off one at a time in little bouts of screaming, barking, and of course the lovely cops screaming the โ€œhard Rโ€ at my friends. I managed to get out of the neighborhood, ran like 3 miles, and started hitchhiking, when my boy who was at the house calls me. I pick it up and its a cop saying โ€œHi Matthew, your friend ratted you out and we know your name and address. We arenโ€™t gonna stop looking for you.โ€ (it was the kid i didnโ€™t know that snitched, not any of my friends) So I gave up and told him where I was. Iโ€™m standing in the middle of the road with my hands up, and this cop has the audacity to jump out of his car with his gun out screaming โ€œget on the ground you f-ing yankeeโ€ and shoves my face into the street while handcuffing me. they put me in a separate cell from all the other kids and wouldnโ€™t stop calling me Yankee lol it felt like it was the 1800s or something. I got charged with 2 counts of burglary, 2 counts of criminal trespassing, and felonies for xan and wax. Luckily i got a good lawyer and wasnโ€™t actually guilty of any of those things, so i ended up with 2 misdemeanors - criminal trespassing and underage drinking. I talked about it in more detail in this interview.

the second arrest was for breaking into a tire store in Buckhead, because this kid i met at a bar told me his dad owned it and i was too drunk to think twice when he forced open the door with a shovel.

that first arrest was the reason for the probation experience i mentioned in 1 thot 2 thot. i had to do 240 hours of community service, so i moved in with my friend who owns a thrift shop in Montana to finesse some extra hours / get away from my bad influence friends in Minnesota. I worked 10 hours every single day for 24 days straight. The last day when i got off i was so hyped i went home and wrote 1 thot 2 thot in like 30 minutes. got a bottle of cognac and went to the studio that night (: GRAVY OFF PROBATION

p.s. jail in iowa is way better than jail in georgia"

UPDATE: Thank you so much, Soundcloud! As of December 5th, Soundcloud has announced that upload limits will not be changed this upcoming Monday. This means the world to thousands of small time creators and is appreciated deeply; Thank you for listening to your content creators and I am deeply humbled that I could help voice some of the community's concerns.

I think we can all breathe a sigh or relief now and get back to making music. Thanks for the support everyone

Soundcloud is a website that was built by small time creators. It rose in popularity as an avenue for producers and musicians to share their art in an accessible environment. If you've heard of a small time musician, chances are they got some of their start on Soundcloud.

Which is why is heartbreaking that they've made the decision to kill off the majority of their users

starting December 9th, our free upload limit will change from 3 hours of audio, to 3 hours or 15 tracks.

15 tracks...

This essentially means even if you were nowhere near the original upper limit of 3 hours of upload time, then your account will be frozen. Virtually every creator/producer that has been with the site for any considerable amount of time is either well, well above 15 tracks (many only under 3 minutes each) or right on the cusp of hitting 15 tracks.

The only option to circumvent this crippling new limitation is to pay for their "Pro Unlimited" program, costing $12-$16 a month

Thats ~ $150 - $190 a year

I would have no problem paying for the service if it wasn't so insultingly costly with virtually no benefit to the Artist, beyond now being the only way to use the site if youre a creator

If this new implementation goes through on December 9th, then Soundcloud will become a shell of what it used to be; users will leave for other platforms in droves and everyone will be worse for it. How many starving artists do you know that have $150 to dish out every year for a service that can easily be replaced by Youtube and Bandcamp in tangent.

In short, RIP Soundcloud. Cause of death: Suicide

Edit: I can't keep replying to individuals calling Soundcloud users 'entitled whiny soundcloud rappers,' so I'll leave this here: Services cost money, that is common sense and no one is trying to ignore that. If Soundcloud came forward with a message saying "Sorry guys, ads aren't cutting it, if you want more upload time then you need to pay something," That would be understandable and fair. $5-$10 for music hosting is reasonable.

Instead this entire thing is covered with underhanded business practices. Weeks before this, they slowly rolled back their "Pro" membership, an option for more storage among other things that was a lot more affordable than "Pro Unlimited." Pro is no longer an option on their store, meaning the $150-$190 a year plan is the only option. Then they hit us with the 15 track limit, which in practice lowers the 3 hour upload limit for free users down to 30-45 minutes. Soundcloud planned this, to effectively strong arm as many users, users who have committed years of efforts into building the site into what it is, into the most expensive plan possible in a financial hail mary. The company itself is in dire straits financially, and it seems theyve decided their best way out is by throwing their long term users under the bus.

No one is trying to act entitled, I would happily contribute towards the site if the costs were representative of the services they offer, but coming from a musician who has loved the site despite its flaws for years, I feel deeply betrayed. I'm sure these sentiments are shared by the thousands of small creators who will have their accounts effectively frozen on Dec. 9th.

This situation is disheartening to small content creators everywhere.

Edit 2: Personally, I do not think there is much power behind a petition. Regardless, upon the suggestion of a few users who share similar concerns and eagerness to do something to stop this, I have put together a petition expressing public desire to prevent the harm these changes will have on Soundcloud and its loyal content creators.

http://chng.it/LH8yHsTJ9g

Signatures would be appreciated, if only to show that the decision Soundcloud has made is not one that people will resign to and take quietly.

This situation is unfortunate, but I am appreciative of those who understand the plight these small time artists are now facing.

I will make a separate post for the petition tomorrow. For now, thanks to those who have been civil in discussion of this matter.

Final Edit

The post detailing the petition is now live:

https://old.reddit.com/r/Music/comments/e62azy/update_petition_soundcloud_is_quietly_forcing_out/?

Any support would be appreciated. Thanks for the reception on this matter everyone, it means a lot.

Hey reddit, I wanted to give another quick update on the Internet-Wide Day of Action to Save Net Neutrality planned for July 12th that tons of major websites, subreddits, online communities, and Internet users are helping organize.

The momentum is continuing to build. In the past few days Twitter, Soundcloud, Medium, Adblock, Twilio, and some other big names have joined. Since we announced earlier this month a ton of other high-traffic sites have signed on including Imgur, Amazon, Namecheap, OK Cupid, Bittorrent, Mozilla, Kickstarter, Etsy, GitHub, Vimeo, Chess.com, Fark, Checkout.com, Y Combinator, and Private Internet Access.

Reddit itself has also joined, along with more than 80 subreddits!

We've started solidifying ideas for the types of messages that sites can display on the day of the protest, and you can check those out here (feedback is welcome!)

EDIT: A little more info about the plan: on July 12 websites will display a prominent message on their homepage, and apps and services will send push notifications or do whatever makes the most sense for them to reach as many people as possible. We'll direct people to BattleForTheNet.com, an optimized action site that easily allows anyone to submit a comment to the FCC and Congress at the same time, make a phone call, and sign up to participate in meetings with lawmakers. We'll also have video bumpers that YouTubers and other video creators can use. Basically, everyone should think about how they can use the power of the Internet to reach their audience with a message abotu net neutrality and make it easy for them to take action.

Important context from my previous update below.

Net neutrality is the basic principle that prevents Internet Service Providers like Comcast and Verizon from charging us extra fees to access the online content we want -- or throttling, blocking, and censoring websites and apps. Title II is the legal framework for net neutrality, and the FCC is trying to get rid of it, under immense pressure for the Cable lobby.

This day of action is an incredibly important moment for the Internet to come together -- across political lines -- and show that we don't want our Cable companies controlling what we can do online, or picking winners and losers when it comes to streaming services, games, and online content.

The current FCC chairman, Ajit Pai, is a former Verizon lawyer and seems intent on getting rid of net neutrality and misleading the public about it. But the FCC has to answer to Congress. If we can create another moment of massive online protest like the SOPA Blackout and the Internet Slowdown, we have a real chance of stopping the FCC in its tracks, and protecting the Internet as a free and open platform for creativity, innovation, and exchange of ideas.

So! If you've got a website, blog, Tumblr, or any kind of social media following, or if you are a subreddit mod or active in an online community or forum, please get involved! There's so much we as redditors can do, from blacking out our sites to drive emails and phone calls to organizing in-person meetings with our lawmakers. Feel free to message me directly or email team (at) fightforthefuture (dot) org to get involved, and learn more here.

EDIT: Oh hai, everyone! Very glad you're here. Lots of awesome brainstorming happening in the comments. Keep it coming. A lot of people are asking what sites will be doing on July 12. We're still encouraging brainstorming and creativity, but the basic idea is that sites will have a few options of things they can do to their homepage to show what the web would be like without net neutrality, ie a slow loading icon to show they are stuck in the slow lane, a "site blocked" message to show they could be censored, or an "upgrade your Internet service to access this site" fake paywall to show how we could be charged special fees to access content. Love all your ideas! Keep sharing, and go here for more info about the protest.

EDIT 2: It's worth noting that given the current chairman of the FCC's political orientation, it's extra important that conservatives, libertarians, and others to the right of center speak out on this issue. The cable lobby is working super hard to turn this technological issue into a partisan circus. We can't let them. Net neutrality protects free speech, free markets, innovation, and economic opportunity. We need people and sites from all across the political spectrum to be part of this.
