Bitcoin is the currency of the Internet: a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Unlike traditional currencies such as dollars, bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. As such, it is more resistant to wild inflation and corrupt banks. With Bitcoin, you can be your own bank.

As always I'm happy to share the funny things that I encounter while I'm on my missions as a crypto bounty hunter, I share these events to raise awareness in the community and to hopefully save the next victim.

The Hustler

While working on behalf of a client, I encountered a scammer who managed to steal 143.72 Ethereum (approximately $230,000).

My client was extremely cautious; he did not approve any contracts, did not send funds to anyone, blocked every message he received, and did not click on any links. Unfortunately, he connected his wallet to a website that seemed very legitimate at the time. Unbeknownst to him, you could lose access to your wallet through a simple website signature. My client went about his day without thinking much of it, until he discovered that all his Ethereum, USDC, and tokens had been drained. For those unaware, scammers can drain your wallet via a signature, even though they don't gain direct access to your wallet.

On the blockchain side, I encountered a method of laundering funds that I had rarely seen before. The scammers created a token using the stolen funds and then added a liquidity pair, depositing the stolen funds as liquidity. They received corresponding liquidity tokens, sent them to another wallet, which in turn sent the tokens to yet another wallet, ultimately returning to the original wallet. It's worth noting that each of these steps took an average of 5 days to complete, so I had to exercise a great deal of patience. The scammers repeated this process several times, seemingly for no reason other than to frustrate me, before withdrawing the liquidity from the last token, exchanging it for a stablecoin, and sending it to HUOBI, a popular Asian exchange. The entire process they used to launder funds seemed pointless because the funds always ended up in the same account. If I had simply left them alone and returned 100 days later, I wouldn't have even noticed the effort they put into cleaning the funds.

Educational note: When you create a token on any blockchain that allows smart contracts, such as Ethereum or Cardano, before anyone can buy or sell it, you need to create a liquidity pair, like QUEASY/USDT if the token was named Queasy. This is typically done on decentralized exchanges like Uniswap. For instance, if you deposit 1 Queasy and 1 USDT into the pair, the contract will use tokens as a form of receipt to track your deposit, which you can later use to withdraw your funds. These tokens are transferable, allowing you to send them anywhere.

Huobi is commonly used by the Asian market, making arrests extremely unlikely. However, we are working towards freezing the funds and eventually seizing them, as these scammers are major players in the scamming market, in the end some Queasy Justice is always delivered.

TLTR; I share an encounter I had some some unusual scammers who stole around 144 ether, and launder it via creating tokens on the ethereum chain.

As always, stay safe and Freak the Scammers.

Okay, so the concept of celebs, actors, musicians, sports stars being associated with Crypto projects either directly, or indirectly is vast. Every other week it seems another Logan Paul story appears of his ape like behaviour. I figured we'd have a little looksie at other celebs to be caught up in or been associated with less than proper Crypto projects.

Naughty naughty list

DJ Khaled, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather: Centra Tech Scandal
Back in 2017, DJ Khaled and Floyd Mayweather were seen heavily promoting Centra Tech's ICO, claiming it would revolutionize the world of crypto payments. However, the founders were eventually charged with fraud, and the ICO turned out to be a massive scam, leading to losses for many investors. Manny Pacquiao, the legendary boxer, was also part of the Centra Tech promotional campaign. Both fighters faced backlash when the project turned out to be fraudulent.

Lindsay Lohan: Pump and Dump Scheme
Actress Lindsay Lohan raised eyebrows when she endorsed a cryptocurrency project called "LohanCoin." Shortly after her endorsement, the coin's value skyrocketed, only to crash soon after. Many accused her of being part of a pump-and-dump scheme.

Paris Hilton: Involvement in Various ICOs
Reality TV star Paris Hilton has been involved in several ICO promotions. While not all of them turned out to be rug pulls, her involvement in multiple ICOs raised suspicions in the crypto community.

T.I.: Involvement in Flik ICO
Rapper T.I. faced a lawsuit related to his involvement in promoting the Flik ICO. The lawsuit alleged that he and others had engaged in a fraudulent scheme, leading to losses for investors.

Soulja Boy: Misleading NFTs
Rapper Soulja Boy jumped on the NFT bandwagon, but some of his NFT releases were met with skepticism. Some users accused him of misleading marketing practices, raising concerns about the legitimacy of his NFT projects.

Lil Pump: Pump Token Saga
Rapper Lil Pump created his own cryptocurrency called "Pump Token." While not a rug pull, its sudden rise and fall raised concerns about celebrity-driven speculative assets.

Gwyneth Paltrow: Promoting Abra
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow's involvement with the cryptocurrency wallet and investment app Abra garnered attention. While Abra itself isn't a scam, the use of celebrity endorsements in the crypto space raises questions about transparency.

Kevin Hart: Lil' Bit Cash Scam
Comedian Kevin Hart was roped into promoting Lil' Bit Cash, a cryptocurrency project. However, the project's founders disappeared after the ICO, leaving investors with worthless tokens and a bitter taste.

Paul Pierce: SafeMoon Promotion
Former NBA player Paul Pierce promoted SafeMoon, a highly speculative cryptocurrency. While SafeMoon itself wasn't necessarily a scam, the risky nature of such tokens can lead to significant losses for investors.

Kardashian: EMAX The SECโ€™s order finds that Kardashian failed to disclose that she was paid $250,000 to publish a post on her Instagram account about EMAX tokens, the crypto asset security being offered by EthereumMax

Lana Rhoades: Cryptosis scam Porn star Lana Rhoades allegedly made off with $1.5 million worth of ethereum in an apparent NFT scam. Rhoades created an NFT project called "Cryptosis", which features collections of cartoon images of herself.

Not their fault, NIL being used

Mike Tyson: Bitcoin ATM Scam
Boxing icon Mike Tyson, known for his interest in Bitcoin, was associated with a Bitcoin ATM scam. Scammers used his image to promote fraudulent Bitcoin ATMs, deceiving unsuspecting users.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson: Nonexistent "Rock Coin"
In 2021, a fake cryptocurrency called "Rock Coin" appeared, claiming to be endorsed by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The actor quickly disassociated himself from the project, warning fans about the scam.

Good guy list

Lionel Messi: Notorious for Avoiding Crypto Endorsements
On the flip side, soccer legend Lionel Messi has been cautious about endorsing cryptocurrencies. Despite numerous offers, he has refrained from associating himself with crypto projects, setting a positive example for others.
