I have worked at a Non Profit in Social Services for the last 5 years, We recently have new hires including a retired VP from the Company that take it upon themselves to go shopping every day in our Food Bank and take Big Ticket Donations meant for the less fortunate clients we have ( most of which are trying to survive on SSI or Soc Security. I am normally a live and let live but this strikes a chord in me, I mentioned to them that I thought it was ethically wrong to be taking donations meant for our clients, (by the way said employees can all afford their own groceries). Basically I called them a bunch of thieves lol - i may die on this hill. I have received such push back that it is mind boggling. Also our clients have increased 10 fold with inflation the way it is, sometimes at the end of the day our shelves are almost bare. I have no problem with someone going in to take a snack if needed or at the end of the week if their are leftover perishables lets pass them out - but there response to me is its only a few things I take, but if you have 5 - 10 people taking bags of groceries every day that are meant for the needy its a problem. Am i being an Asshole
So 8 of my coworkers called our ethics hot line on a team lead. They sent an investigator out to look into the claims. The lead in question was given the week off with pay, and when he came back every one of the employees that called the hotline were terminated. My question is, shouldn't the whole situation have been anonymous? I can understand telling someone they were under investigation for ethics violations in the workplace but to tell him who called on him then allow him to fire them all is a dick move.
