I work for a healthcare organization which has chaplains/counselors to support our patients. Most of my colleagues are Christian. It's very common to open meetings with a prayer, or say "I'm praying for you." Many of my coworkers know I'm an atheist but I am not overly vocal about it.
I'm facing a challenging medical diagnosis and have shared this with some colleagues. So far, not ONE person has said "I'll pray for you." In a couple of cases, the person is deeply Christian. I realized they started to share a prayer, paused, and rephrased to say "I'll be thinking of you" instead.
This tells me my coworkers are making a concerted effort to be kind, to support me, and to respect my beliefs. I'm deeply touched and never would have expected it.
Just wanted to share because it made me happy.
My new thing when people try to lecture me on religion is saying “I know more than the people who wrote the Bible.” They always look at me like I’m crazy, but it’s literally the reason I can’t follow any religions. Things were assumed to have come from a higher power, but today we know better and there are clear explanations for most things. Why can’t people understand this and realize I’m not actively trying to be an asshole?
Either they truly believe it or they want to lie about it.
They say shit like "do you want to be a good christian or do you want to be that atheist tbat does drugs?" like first off im too broke to do drugs. Lol "do you want to be that child free atheist who thinks she doesnt need kids and parties and has sex?" bro. Im too tired to have parties.
Just where the fuck are they getting this. And I swear these people have a fetish. They only look at young people. Even if true most of these behaviours completely disappear at age 30 fish with some exception. We have jobs.
