Follow the Standards of Civility:
No trolling or being disruptive
No insults or personal attacks
No accusations that other users are shills
No hate speech. No abusive speech based on race, religion, sex/gender, or sexual orientation
No harassment, threats, or advocating violence
No witch hunts or doxxing (Redact usernames when possible)
If a user deletes all or nearly all comments or posts it can result in instant permanent ban
You may attack each other's ideas, not each other.
No discussion unrelated to Unidentified Flying Objects.
This includes:
Artwork not related to a UFO sighting
Adjacent topics without an explicit connection to UFOs
No low effort discussion. Low Effort implies content which is low effort to consume, not low effort to produce. This generally includes:
Posts containing jokes, memes, and showerthoughts.
AI generated content.
Posts of social media content without significant relevance.
Posts with incredible claims unsupported by evidence.
“Here’s my theory” posts unsupported by evidence.
Short comments, and emoji comments.
Summarily dismissive comments (e.g. “Swamp gas.”).
Posts of the same footage, link, or news article may not be posted within sixty days of one another. New articles or previously unlinked footage may be posted at any time. If you have multiple videos of the same object, include them all in the same post, not as individual submissions.
No advertisements, fundraisers, merchandise, or other commercial/fundraising links. Please refer to Reddit's self promotion guidelines. If you are interested in promoting your own work please contact us before posting.
Vague, heavily editorialized, misleading, clickbait, inaccurate post titles, or titles in all caps are not allowed.
Do not post more than two times within any 24-hour period. This rule is enforced by a bot automatically.
Meme posts are not allowed in the subreddit. Feel free to post them in r/ufomemes or elsewhere.
Link posts must include a submission statement (comment on your own post). Submission statements may contain a summary or description of the content, why it is relevant to UFOs, the submitter's personal perspectives, or all of the above and must be at least 150 characters in length. If a statement is not added within thirty minutes of posting it will be removed.
Submissions with the bracketed text "[in-depth]" in the title have stricter post length and quality guidelines. Top-level comments (not replies to comments) made within these in-depth posts must be at least 150 characters or longer and are expected to be constructive, diplomatic, and thoughtful. Low quality or superficial comments will be subject to removal at moderator discretion.
Posts similar to previous Common Question posts must include a link to the previous thread. Our aim is to consolidate existing responses and discourage redundant posts from users who have not viewed previous threads. Users may suggest future questions to ask (or re-ask) in series at any time using this link.
Meta-posts, meaning posts focused on moderation, subreddit critiques, rule changes, and feature requests, must be posted in r/ufosmeta.
Public figures any person or organization who has achieved notoriety or is well-known in society or ufology.
This includes:
Posts that are primarily about public figures and not their claims.
Posts and comments that are rude, hateful, obscene, or threatening.
Posts and comments that primarily amplify drama surrounding public figures.
Examples and more information can be found here: https://moderatehatespeech.com/framework/.
Off-topic, political comments may be removed at moderator discretion. There are political aspects which are relevant to ufology, but we aim to keep the subreddit free of partisan politics and debate.
No discussion is allowed that can be interpreted as recruitment efforts into UFO religions, or attempts to hijack conversation with overtly religious dogma. However, discussion about religious, spiritual, or metaphysical concepts is in-bounds within comments, provided that it is respectful and offered with humility.
Please report posts/comments which break Reddiquette or our rules.
