Why are you skipping Lisbon? Lisbon is incredible and it’s on your way from Porto to Spain.
Bikepacking: Off-Pavement Bicycling and camping where you would if you were to go backpacking. Bikepacking is generally in the backcountry, but you can backpack on local trails.
Would love to find some routes that start near airports for some quick weekend trips this upcoming spring and summer. Basically I’m just trying to avoid renting a car. The route can start right by the airport, or I’d be willing to hop on a train/bus to get to the starting point. When touring I fly my bike in a cardboard box, assemble it at the airport and just leave the box and ride from there. I’d love to do the same with my mountain bike and singletrack routes.
Ideas or intel?
Edit: I live in Phoenix and know about the Fools Loop. Everywhere else is fair game!
Everything hot in or around Phoenix, Arizona. All local topics including news, things to do, places to eat, and of course the weather. Not a visitor or relocation info sub, but you can search old topics. Also check our Reddit AZ Discord at: https://discord.com/invite/yWVuTG57Zh
Mountain biker here… I ride a ton, but pretty much strictly singletrack and by myself or with a very small select group of people, meaning I’m out of touch with the road community and it’s events. Wife and I are doing El Tour de Tucson in November, and she really likes these kinds of events and I enjoy doing them with her.
What are some good events similar to Tour de Tucson? I’ve tried googling it but there seems to be about a jillion to sift through so I thought I’d just ask here.
I have not lived there, but I have visited friends that lived there and they took me out to the “local” spots. I’ve also done the typical touristy stuff like Barton Springs, etc. Like I said elsewhere in this thread, I don’t dislike Austin. I just think it’s massively overhyped.
Also, I’m curious who’s saying Atlanta is boring? I’ve only been to Atlanta once but it found it to be an amazing place to visit. It’s huge and there’s a ton of culture and quirky things to do there.
I can find something I like about every city I go to. I don’t dislike Austin, I just think it’s seriously overhyped.
Bicycle touring is about taking trips via bicycle. Whether you're going out for the weekend or cycling across continents, bicycletouring is a community of individuals who share this passion.

It’s fine, I don’t care about Reddit karma in the least. There are some really good answers and insight here so this has been helpful.

Lol it’s ok. I think I maybe offended some people that roll with those group sets. In the mtb world, those are considered “very low end”… which I why I asked. I wasn’t trying to say they were bad, just don’t know a lot about their reliability in a touring setting.
