Paul Schrader says he’s voting for Andrea Riseborough at the Oscars following the likelihood of potential investigation
I agree. So incredibly disrespectful to the other nominees and goes a long way to prove critics right in terms of concerns around how white privilege has been weaponized throughout this entire ridiculous campaign.
I am impressed with how they have made Andrea, a white woman in Hollywood as the face of victims of elitism & exclusivity. Even though she took the place of 2 dark skin Black women who did everything right during campaign season. The last time a non white person won female actress of the year was Halle Berry in 2002. She was the first & is still the only one. No Asian woman has won best actress. A plethora of white women have gone on to win since but yes, she is the victim in all this. 🤦🏾♀️
Their fragility over her backlash is starting to get hilarious for me now ngl. Nothing has even happened but they are all falling over themselves defending her like she’s being persecuted for a crime she didn’t commit.
Whatevs. I just hope the votes going her way are Blanchett votes, the white actresses split votes and Michelle Yeoh wins the Oscar.
(Also to the unhinged Blanchett stan harassing me on my DMs, please stop, I do not care for your opinion)
It’s ridiculous bc we are talking a category where an Asian woman has never won before. Instead of championing & campaigning for Michelle Yeoh & for Asian women to finally get their due in Hollywood. They would rather uphold the system & allow another white woman to win. Bla bla its a movie with a big heart we have never seen before. Really? A movie about disheveled white woman with no makeup going through it is not groundbreaking. It’s been done before countless times.
The Hollywood celebrity fragility is too real. Reminds me of the NY Mag nepo baby discourse from a few weeks back — celebs just couldn’t help themselves and got so defensive and self-righteous about it, so they kept putting out the most ridiculous statements and making themselves look bad in the process.
It’s somehow still surprising to me every time A/B-listers go out of their way to announce their horrendously bad takes on topics like nepotism and now this Oscar campaigning thing. These celebs’ impassioned comments are so grating because you can really tell how much they’re bristling at being called out by the public or the press. Even (relative) fan favourites who are typically thought of as relatable or unpretentious like Jamie Lee Curtis, Coco Rocha, and Christina Ricci end up doing it.
Schrader has turned into the typical white boomer raging on FB about wokeness - he had another temper tantrum when the Sight and Sound movie list came out and it wasn't all men.
He can take his "sad man writes in journal and drinks" movies and go away! you are a dinosaur sir...make way for the future with Academy Award Winner Michelle Yeoh in it....
