A group of old ladies added our Bitcoin center to their Paris tour, spent one hour asking all possible questions to Bitcoin, and bought each 50 mBTC !

Now would be a good time to start using mBTC as default unit.

Our minds are not trained to handle small fractional numbers, so when you read a price like "0.0172 BTC", I have to count zero's and do arithmetic to make sense of that number. 17.2 mBTC is so much easier to understand and compare. As a test, go ahead and say the number 15441. You will have no problems. Now say 0.0015441. Good luck!
$16000 is a lot of money. Of course its not rational, but as a price for bitcoin, such a high number scares people, as they consider $1 or €1 as a baseline and no other currency is denominated remotely like it. mBTC makes it seem more accessible.
You wouldnt believe how many people dont realize bitcoin is divisible and think its like a share, and you cant buy fractions. Using mBTC helps clear up at least this misconception.

Edit: reading the comments, I think we may need another hardfork :p

On a psychological level, I think people seeing $8000 makes them think it's way too late to get in. But if they saw $8 (the price of one mBTC), people new to the space would be more likely to buy in.

Assuming you guys agree, what would it take for exchanges and coinmarketcap.com to show units in mBTC?

Isn't it about time we standardized mBTC as the official unit of Bitcoin?

It's been 1/2 year since 1 BTC has never gone below $1,000. As of this writing it is around $6,300.

I think all Bitcoin holders want the prices to go up, and a massive hike would happen if mass adoption were to take place but I feel that the end result of this massive rally in the past year is not helping too many people to jump into the market.

With the value of 1 BTC now hitting thousands of dollars, I think 1 BTC being $6,000 is a massive psychological barriers for ordinary people. Many people do not even know that 1 BTC can be in smaller units and they tell me that they don't have $6,000 to invest.

By making mBTC the standard unit in exchanges, two things could happen.

If 1 BTC is at $6,000, 1 mBTC is $6. Psychological barriers will be significantly lower for cryptocurrency beginners to enter the market.
It also educates people that 1 BTC is not the smallest unit of Bitcoin.

uBTC is better than mBTC, and here's why.

We should switch to uBTC and be done with it (forever). Switch our clients, our exchanges, our store plugins, etc, to use uBTC by default.

It would give Bitcoin two remaining decimal places, which is what people are already familiar with, and would be much more compatible with existing financial software.
One uBTC is worth enough that it wouldn't be too cumbersome at this point to use. Buying something for $25 would be sending 31,255 uBTC.
The conversion is easy too - just remember 1 million. You multiply or divide by one million to convert between current BTC and uBTC.
We would only have to switch main denominations once, whereas a change to mBTC only helps us with the current price. If the value of BTC continues to go up, we'll find ourselves in the same situation of having a main denomination that is too valuable.
Finally, it would give enough room for BTC to grow however large and valuable it could possibly grow. Even if everyone in the world used bitcoin, uBTC + 2 decimal places would be enough to provide all the precision we would need.
