To be fair, nobody was reporting on rumours that Nintendo was no longer making Mario games and that a different developer would be doing them from now on. These rumours are clearly big news, so 343 has to say fucking something.
Either they say nothing - which people will take to mean that the rumours are true - or they deny it - which apparently people will still say is weird and thus also confirm that it's true. Fucking somehow.
That's not entirely the same thing. Not all Mario games are even developed by the same studio
It would only be comparable if Microsoft as a whole confirmed they were continuing to make Halo. Halo being made by a different developer under Microsoft wouldn't be any different from how Mario is already handled
