Joining reserves at 40, as an officer? Joining reserves at 40, as an officer?

I have an MBA, and have management experience in my civilian life.

Part of me wants to give back to the country that lets me live the life I lead. I especially like the idea of helping during natural disasters when CAF gets involved. I see the CAF needs people, maybe I can be of service.

Another part of me (the immature fantasy part) kind of just wants to blow shit up, fly in helicopters and shoot stuff. Even if it’s just training.

Is an interest in combat arms just crazy for 40 year old? Like infantry officer. I’m at least not fat, but I am not a trained athlete either, but I’m sure with training I could get myself up to what’s needed.

Other trades I might be suitable for given my experience would be intelligence or logistics. But seems less exciting - i.e. blowing shit up.

Also, am I nuts for wanting to do officer?

Talk me out of it, or encourage me. Any perspective would - I would be super grateful for.

Confused if Logistics officer is the right path for my career Confused if Logistics officer is the right path for my career

Hi everyone,

I have CFAT scheduled in a week. I have gone through practice tests and ready for it.
The questions is I have completed my Masters of Industrial engineering with background in bachelors of Mechanical Engineering. Right now I am working in Supply Chain Management in a reputed company.

Do you think Logistics officer is worth the shot?

TIA

What benefits does a normal honourable discharge give you? What benefits does a normal honourable discharge give you?

In the American military it seems there's two major pathways that people tend to go down:

  1. Serve one contract and get out with an honourable discharge. Here you get the GI bill to go to a post-secondary institution free of charge. Maybe rejoin as an officer with your degree if you're prior enlisted and then stay until retirement.

  2. Serve 20 years and then leave with a full pension, either retire or get a civilian job on top of your pension.

Is the CAF similar to this? Are there any benefits that a veteran gets who hasn't served the full 25 years but served the entirety of their contract and got out? If there's more benefits that are not just for further education I'd be glad to know of them.

Sorry for all the questions I've been asking btw, I wish there was clearer information on this type of stuff for the CAF.

Considering Joining (Information) Considering Joining (Information)

20M in trade school to be electrician, already 6 months in on a 2 years class. I have been considering joining the forces to get paid to study in the military and get red seal certification for the same job instead. I was really curious what the pay looks like for these types of trades, considering being a electrician on the civil side could bring me 100k a year 2-3 years after finishing my GED. It is really not my only reason for wanting to join but considering the hours and the long term commitment the pay is important.
I have looked at the salaries on the website and seen spécialiste pay and all the ranks but I want to know what the allowances and expenses look like(number’s/exemples). Also wanted to know if deployments were pretty profitable.

Thank you for anyone who takes time to read and respond

Foreign Travel App Question Foreign Travel App Question

I’m studying in the states and want to apply now and get to BMW next July ish. But I’ve travelled outside Canada (from Canada out and from U.S. out) so many times in the last 10 years that I can’t remember it all much less give an accurate day to day travel record.

  1. If I do my best to my recollection + looking through old emails and available records to guess my foreign travels is that ok? Or is the application looking for a strictly 100% accurate answer?

  2. Is there a way for a Canadian citizen (me) to request their passport’s foreign travel logs from the government?

CAF Artillery bases in Canada CAF Artillery bases in Canada

A lot of students in gagetown at the Royal Artillery school are wondering which base provides the best living experiences and can someone explain the pros and cons of each? The artillery bases are as follows:

  1. Gagetown, NB

  2. Valcartier, Quebec

  3. Petawawa, ON

  4. Shilo, Manitoba

Does anybody already know what the price of living is like near these places? Are there available PMQ’s and or is the nearby town houses affordable?

Any information is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I'm 31 MTF transgender. I've been thinking about enlisting since I was 15. I've always had my eye on Intelligence. I'm a little out of shape now, but I've always lived a healthy lifestyle so I'm no stranger to exercise and I'm not afraid to hit the gym. I did a 4 year honor's degree in Criminology at a Canadian university. I'm trying to figure my life out, and this is an option I've always considered but never pursued.

Any thoughts/comments/opinions? What is the state of the CAF in 2024?
