TL;DR: Many of the non-senior students do drills wrong, which interferes with my practice, such as not focusing their techniques toward my chest. Not sure what to do when paired with these students. I never have these issues when working with senior students.

Examples: A student Pok Das way away from the chest. Or presses way away from my chest in the basic chi-sau roll.

So, one thing my teacher says is that he would counter, such as by just letting a strike/push slide by if someone were to do this.

But especially when we're just doing a drill I feel like there is no winning when a student does this. Either I 'fight' against a student who is really pressing outward hard or I do one of the clear counters. Either way, it seems like the other student gets competitive and it turns into them trying to 'win' harder or it feels like a wrestling match, where I'm pushing inward instead of toward their chest.

This feel exacerbated by the fact that I'm not really supposed to speak during class. I'm not supposed to correct my classmates and such. But then this means they don't seem to understand that I'm just trying not to create my own bad habit, do force on force, or have bad form during chi-sau... and it seems like the way they practice I'm forced to have on of these. And since I can't communicate them except 'using my hands' they seem to misunderstand my intent and think I'm trying to 'win' or 'wrestle' with them, when I'm just trying to train according to proper principles.

Now, sometimes I'll ask the teacher to come over and help correct me (or us). This is often to better understand what I should do when my partner does this or so that the teacher corrects my partner... but my partner generally goes back to old habits almost immediately and if I do the teacher's shown responses they go into a mode where they are 'fighting me' or so it feels like.
