I'm a potter, and I would like to have a tiny pottery wheel for making tiny pots. Commercial options are almost all poor quality, especially regarding torque -- they slow down when you push down on the clay, which you have to do to shape it. The one mini wheel that gets good reviews is very expensive, when it's even in stock.

So I looked on YouTube, and there are demos for making them. But the motors don't seem that good, and the bodies they build to hold the motors move around. Which makes pushing on the clay to form it really difficult.

So I figured that of all the spinning devices I know of, a blender base is the closest to what would make a good pottery wheel. It's designed to deal with at least some wetness. It's got a lot of torque. I could easily figure out how to attach a wheel head to the part that makes the blades spin. And it's usually heavy with sticky feet, so it won't slide away when I push on the clay.

Problem is, blenders have huge rpms, and I need a max of 200 rpm, with the ability to have different speeds down to maybe 10 rpm. So is it possible to make a variable-speed blender go that much slower? And if so, please eli5. I'm not an electricity and motor person. I'm a clay and fabric person.
