Sunak under fire as ‘stupid’ Eat Out to Help Out scheme to be focus of Covid inquiry by Duanedoberman in unitedkingdom

China took the insane approach and tried to reach 0 covid cases. The UK was trying to take a middle course and reduce the peak as much as possible and delay until there was a vaccination program to mitigate.

UK gov pretending they were following the science, then implementing a program clearly designed to benefit businesses owners at the expense of public safety is the disconnect here.

Apparently around 500k technology professionals left Russia since the war began. The smart ones already left.

They are scraping the barrel with the people who can't leave.

Please help me find pickles by farmer_jen in glasgow

I live near Lupe Pintos, they have Vlasic Kosher Dill Pickles. Their stock is a bit random, but they stock a ton of American import stuff and not at the massively inflated prices you see at the American Candy stores.

I would give them a call and see if they have any in stock, there is a chance.

Housing/where to live megathread for June by Veloglasgow in glasgow

Mortgage is at HR. There are a few things that are priced at the selling price (stamp duty, conveyancing fees, estate agent pay).

Good properties are still going for 10% over or more. If there are a few things wrong with the property or not much interest you can probably get away with closet to HR.

Yeah, people need houses, there aren't enough places to live, so the prices stay high.

Last house we viewed on the southside had 40 viewings before it went to closing. Demand is off the charts for houses in prime spots.

Ended up getting a flat for about 12% over HR.

Statistically, they are coming from a religious household with a male predator in the family. Most sexual molesters are religious and most sexual abuse is perpetrated by male family members.

They get away with it all the time.

Increased scrutiny makes fewer people that we don't want as cops join the police force. If we reform the system, we might get more people that actually want to serve and help their communities, rather than dominate and abuse their communities.

House prices fall at fastest annual pace in nearly 14 years, says Nationwide by Alert-One-Two in unitedkingdom

[–]Not_A_Clever_Man_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It massively depends based on area too. In the most desirable neighbourhoods property is still going for over home report (in Scotland). Things have shifted down into the 5-10% range when they used to be 15-20% over home report.

There is a massive demand for houses in good locations in good condition, the ones that aren't perfect aren't going nearly as fast especially with the high material costs for renovation.

AITA for wearing a wedding dress to a wedding? by wormhole222 in BestofRedditorUpdates

OP also isn't the one going through the annulment process. People don't know the details when they aren't the primary source. "We are going to get an annullment" is what you tell people about the end of the relationship. You don't go into the painful legal details with every person.

100% agree. I was married at 22 and divorced by 25. You really only start figuring out what kind of person you are at 19-20. It's way too soon to be making permanent decisions.

Corporations will spend any amount of money to keep their products out of the hands of the needy. The supermarkets throw away enough food to solve hunger in the UK.

Or a country where the older generation living off the wealth created for them by a housing shortage keep voting for Tories because they will be dead before these policies bite them in the ass.

What’s the most disturbing secret you’ve discovered about someone close to you? by Electrical-Lemon187 in AskReddit

Yeah, my great grandmother was raised by her aunt after her dad's business went under and had to move away to find work.

I don't know if the family reunited, just that she went to college in the area, so I think the aunt just raised her as her own and that was it.

Well, sounds like your mind is firmly made up. I sincerely hope you are not on the wrong side of history on this one.

Only commenting here in case anyone else ends up seeing this dead end of a conversation with you.

Trans women are women. You failing to understand the differences between sex, gender and our social constructs around them is no reason to demonise and terrorise people just trying to survive.

What a lovely strawman argument.

Why the fuck do we need to spend time fighting imaginary paedos when we have hundreds of actual ones out there?

This isn't "protecting women" it's just persecuting a vulnerable minority.

If you want to protect children and women, help provide resources for people escaping domestic abuse. The vast majority of abuse is perpetrated by male family members.

But these are hard issues to solve, rather than your imagined crusade against a non-existent child abusing maniac.
