Fairphone announce modular headphones: Fairbuds XL by WonderfulEstimate176 in gadgets

[–]CornCheeseMafia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can kinda get behind this concept if they’re going toward customizability but I don’t really get the repairability aspect.

To your point, I’ve been using the same Sennheiser HD595 headphones since 2009. They even have the little plastic stress fractures at the ear cup where it slides against the headband that model is notorious for but it still works the same.

Most popular headphones have replaceable ear pads and tons of models have always had 3.5mm jacks so you can always replace the cable. I just don’t really get the point of this product.

I used to do fundraiser barbecues for college clubs and something I really enjoyed for my own lunch was a double burger with one regular patty and one Boca patty. Nice and substantial without feeling too heavy

I’m a meat freak and I would love an alternative meat theme month or event. I went out and tried Monty’s after listening to that episode and it was gud

I was literally thinking yesterday how I look forward to eink tech getting better to where they’re used as a second always on screen for phones and laptops. For static pages like ebooks they’re incredible. With a higher refresh rate, resolution, and color they would be great for writing and coding

Mercedes Locks Better EV Engine Performance Behind Annoying Subscription Paywalls by speckz in gadgets

Explain this strategy to companies like Walmart.

Companies like Walmart were the ones who started this dynamic. Shrinkflation is a huge way large retailers margin out the lower class.

Why sell a 12 pack of cookies for $3 when you can sell a 10 pack of cookies for $3 and pay a graphic designer an hours worth of work to update the packaging?

“for rich people only”

This is the theme for more and more of the world. Why make low profit margin high volume items when thanks to wealth inequality there will always be buyers with deeper pockets to cater to. Who needs a small truck? Throw another luxury tier on a Silverado and watch people clamor to bid on it.

TIL since 2020, white LED streetlights have been turning purple because of a defect during the manufacturing process between 2017 and 2019. The yellow phosphor coating was delaminating, and the blue LED began showing through, giving off a purplish glow. by dyrak in todayilearned

[–]CornCheeseMafia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. With leds more of the power you put in is being used to produce light so being able to turn on the heat only when you need it would be cheap compared to having HPS lights that are throwing out a ton more waste heat all the time

I’m curious what happens when Blue Sky launches. It sounds like big names are starting to accept their beta invites and might be an easy place to jump to once it’s available as an option. Mastodon works but it’s still too technically demanding for the average user who just wants to browse

TIL the last writers strike in 2008 led the first season of Breaking Bad to be two episodes shorter and kept Hank Schrader (Dean Norris) alive. He was originally planned to be killed off first season. by homerjay42 in todayilearned

[–]CornCheeseMafia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And what makes BB so good is they accomplish that through very believable character development. Hank is a bit of an annoying asshole at the start of the show when he doesn’t really have much purpose. He’s kinda just working his job he enjoys and is going through the usual career building motions.

He gets more serious and applies more of his expertise when the situation starts getting more serious. That classroom scene is where you start respecting him as an agent but I personally didn’t start liking him until he starts having panic attacks I think after the Tortuga situation.

Then I was rooting for him every time he drew his gun.

What is the worst physical pain you have ever experienced? by My_Name_Is_SKELETOR in AskReddit

[–]CornCheeseMafia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had gout or thankfully any other really crazy health things mentioned in this thread happen to me yet but I have the habit of picking at my dry cuticles and recently ended up with what is apparently called paronychia (infection in the nail bed and cuticle area) and I couldn’t believe how painful that was. It’s insane how one small part of your body, be it my fingertip or one of your joints can just fuck the rest of you up.
