Music Life.. People call me Pop-Cop
A lot of people at one time or another decide what they want to do with their lives, especially in terms of a profession that they will practice. Sometimes, especially in the modern world, these things change over time. Some changes in the profession are big, others are relatively minor with people staying in their basic professional field. But, what if you had two professions, both of which were equally important in your life?
Furthermore, what if you practiced two professions at the same time, almost on a daily level? For some, this might sound like an example of those lives with two jobs where the person sleeps four or five hours a night and generally suffers throughout. But this does not have to be the case and my life is the perfect example.
I am one of those people with two jobs and I can really say with full confidence that to my family and me, my life is amazing. This is even more fascinating for people who hear about my life when I tell them that I am both a pop music performer and a fully-fledged member of the law-enforcement agency in a big city. In layman terms, I am a pop-cop for short.
How did all of this come about?
Well, since my childhood, I had a huge love of music. Which happened to be a big part of my life and health. I grew up with two older brothers who had bands and played a range of instruments. They were also into a huge range of different musical styles, including a very strong pop-rock influence that was dominant when I was growing up in the 1980’s. With that influence, I also began listening to the same music and trying to learn their instruments.
Quickly, I noticed that the guitar was something that felt very natural to me. It provided me with a cool-looking thing that could make cool-sounding noise. As soon as I started grade school, I was ready to get a lot better at guitar playing, which is why my parents enrolled me in a musician class. In just a couple of years, even before middle school, I was playing the guitar like a pro while sticking to some diets for my health.
In many other situations
I would have simply become a full-time musician and health fanatic. But, my family was something different. My grandpa was a cop, but so were my parents, including my mom, which a big deal back then. At the same period, my brothers naturally decided to drop music and enroll in the police academy. I was never pressured to become a cop, but I also loved the same job like the rest of my family. That is why I told myself I will become both one day and now, 20 years later, I did and I successfully manage two jobs and a happy family life.
Mostly, I work as a cop in shifts with my partner, patrolling the streets and resolving a range of issues for the better life of our community. But, when I come home, I get my guitar and start practicing while I play with my kids and look after their health.
It is something that reinvigorates me and gives me energy and health
In the same manner, I write catchy and simple pop music tunes which I then rehear with my band twice a week and once during a weekend. Over most weekends, we have gigs which we perform regularly. Some are club-based, others are at venues and even things like high-end weddings and corporate events. We are not famous by any means, but we do have a small following and people love the songs I write. For me, this defines my health and it is as fulfilling as my work as a police officer who protects the community he loves.
Of course, my life is sometimes hectic and I do miss a couple of hours of sleep from time to time. But, when I get to my shift as a cop my partner is waiting for me with a nice cup of coffee, some donut and a lot of understanding for my type of life. I am really grateful that I can easily manage this unusual lifestyle, but I have the support of my colleagues, my family, and friends, which is invaluable to me.
A lot of them even call me a Pop-Cop, which I do not mind at all. In fact, it makes me really proud because I know that I managed to combine everything I ever wanted in life in a single incredible and fun package.
