The team was only willing to trade the 10-time All-Star for draft picks, an elite player, or a young player who can turn into one.
โIf we donโt get a very good player or something we can turn into a very good player, then weโre just not going to do it,โ Morey said July 18 on The Anthony Gargano Show on WPEN-FM 97.5 The Fanatic.
The problem that is trade talks this summer between the Sixers and the Clippers have been lifeless. The Sixers were unwilling to come off their lofty demands. However, the Clippers and other NBA teams are reluctant to give up an All-Star caliber player and/or multiple first-round picks for a player who has lost a step and is on an expiring contract.

In 2019, Chris Paul was on the record as saying that Daryl Morey actively lied to him about not being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Last June, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said he wouldnโt trade Chris Paul during the offseason.
In July, Morey traded Paul to the Thunder for Russell Westbrook.
Morey โ according to Paul โ told the point guard directly he wouldnโt be traded to the Thunder well after the other major offseason moves around the league.
My initial reaction?โ Paul said with a laugh. โI was shocked. Truth be told, I just talked to Daryl a couple days before the trade and he said he wasnโt going to trade me [to Oklahoma City]. Thatโs funny because that is going to be the alert that pops up on everybodyโs phone because nobody knows that. But what the hell, I just said it.โ

Iโm told the Sixers never had an agreement, made an offer, or exchanged proposals with James Harden and his reps heading into this yearโs free agency
It's my understanding the Sixers told James and his reps they would meet with them the second free agency starts. James and his reps did not like that scenario and opted in to the one year with the Sixers and asked for a trade. The Sixers looked into possible trades but there was nothing that they liked from the LA Clippers or any team. The NBA investigated the Sixers last year for tampering but the NBA found no communication with James Harden that violated any tampering rules. They were punished and lost several second round picks for tampering with P.J. Tucker and Danuel House Jr.
