This year as a challenge I have set myself that task of watching a film set in every country, in order to expand the context and languages of my movie watching in 2023. And also to have a bit of fun!

My main goal is to stick as close to alphabetical as possible, with the ideal film being set in, produced by, or at the very least primarily filmed in this country. I will be watching bad movies, great movies and everything in between with a aim to keep it diverse in genre and budget. I will give my thoughts on the movies I watch each week to catalogue this theatrical trip around the world.

Feel free to recommend any films from countries I have not yet watched or tell me what you have thought about a film if you happen to have seen it.

Crushing the last on the B's and getting hype for the C's as I write this. With life and February flying by I am working extra hard to catch up, but also remembering I am doing this for fun. So I've relaxed on some of these and gone for weirder options. These also require less research and gathering time.

Bosnia and Herzegovina - The Whistleblower: A dark exciting pollical dram/ thriller about the involvement of the UN and private contractors in human trafficking following the 90's war in Bosnia. This film is well acted by all parties and tells a fictionalized version of a true event. One of those movies that pulls you into a Wikipedia rabbit hole after watching, truly crazy stuff. While a good movie as a whole I do however regret that it focused less on the country itself and was predominantly shot in Romania. However it did get me thinking about a nation I don't often think about which is a positive. 7/10

Botswana - The Gods Must Be Crazy: Of all the countries to turn on Disney Plus for this had to be quite far down the list. I spend hours scouring the web for ways to watch some of these movies and this was one click away, big positive! A funny concept for a movie, a "Bushman" finds a coke bottle dropped from a plane, after realizing it is evil sent by the gods he endeavors to throw it off the edge of the earth. The movie has it's moments but is primarily a slap stick comedy (mixed in quality) that has unfortunately has more Apartheid era views on race leaking through than you would like. 5/10

Brazil - City Of God: Wow. What a film. So I've seen the name and the cover all around since it's 2002 release in video rental stalls and friends of the families film stands. I was much to young for this brutal and often funny gangster epic. The characters are all full of feeling and life, a credit to the writing and the willingness to give us a long time with each at the risk of dragging out the run time. This never felt slow however and I ended really loving this movie. 9/10

Brunei - Yasmine: A sports drama with all the cliché minus the loss in the final. Don't worry that I spoiled it for you. Unless you are a huge Silat fan and you are under 18 you won't get anything out of this. The best part was for sure the dad revealing his secret past by knocking down her treehouse with a deadly forbidden move. 3/10

Bulgaria - Man with the screaming brain: Boy does Bruce Campbell love fighting his own body parts, he's made a career of it and now his directorial debut. You may recognize that name from The Evil Dead franchise but unfortunately his directing doesn't stack up to the great Sam Raimi of the same series. This SciFi slapstick is serviceable and doesn't take itself seriously. I give the director and writer props for rewriting the script after a last minute budget constraint resulting in *checks notes* filming in Bulgaria. Due to this the movie was not just filmed in but also set in country rather than making a film lot look like California. Make some popcorn and chuck it on. 6.5/10

Burkina Faso - The Dead: Cool medium budget zombie film. If you've followed my previous posts this is the second zombie movies. Dead Sands from Bahrain despite the name is set completely in an Urban environment, pretty standard. This however gets us out into the country and shows off, bushland, mountains, rock formations and desert. The characters don't speak much but that's probably a good thing, lets the action speak. This is filled with slow walkers ( personal favorite) however my personal gripe is how populated this random back county is. Cover 50km through rugged bush terrain, boom still a bunch of zombos! 6.5/10

and last but not least

Burundi- Primeval: A killer Croc movie but Lake Placid this is not. Needed more crocodile, less hypercut action and better acting. I liked the Aliens-esque tracker horror motif but not much else. The country was shown off quite well in terms of nature shots but I learnt 0 about Burundi culture. I'm a big monster movie fan and have seen my fair share of croc films but this ain't it. 4/10

Thanks guys for reading! Let me know what you thought of some of these or tell me what I should have watched instead.
