Perception (from the Latin perceptio, percipio) is the organization, identification, and interpretation of sensory information in order to represent and understand the environment. All perception involves signals in the nervous system, which in turn result from physical or chemical stimulation of the sense organs. For example, vision involves light striking the retina of the eye, smell is mediated by odor molecules, and hearing involves pressure waves. Perception is not the passive receipt of these signals, but is shaped by learning, memory, expectation, and attention.
Perception can be split into two processes Firstly processing sensory input which transforms these low-level information to higher-level information (e.g., extracts shapes for object recognition). Secondly processing which is connected with person's concept and expectations (knowledge), and selective mechanisms (attention) that influence perception.
Perception depends on complex functions of the nervous system, but subjectively seems mostly effortless because this processing happens outside conscious awareness.
Perception was an early evening quiz programme which was produced by Granada Television and aired on the ITV network for 1 series in 1989, the programme was hosted by Alison Holloway. It was broadcast between June 29 to August 31 on a Thursday night.
Each week 2 couples competed against each other for the chance to win £2000.
The contestants had to identify various images including household items and place names from warped pictures and other video distorted images.
The couple who had the most points at the end of the game won through to the end game for a chance of winning £2000 the losing couple went away with a Perception 'goody bag'.
The winning couple had 60 seconds to identify 5 mystery items filmed in close up by a camera in each chamber were the objects are placed and each item identified correctly won them £200 but if they got all 5 correct they won the £2000 otherwise they won the amount of money earned before the time ran out.
The programme aired on a Thursday at 7.30 pm in most of the ITV regions but in the Scottish, Grampian & Ulster regions it aired at 6.30 pm on a Tuesday.
Perception is a peer-reviewed scientific journal specialising in the psychology of vision and perception. It is available in print form and online. It publishes primary research from any discipline within the sensory sciences. The journal is indexed in PubMed.

Jera (also Jeran, Jeraz) is the conventional name of the j-rune ᛃ of the Elder Futhark, from a reconstructed Common Germanic stem *jēra- meaning "harvest, (good) year".
The corresponding letter of the Gothic alphabet is Gothic 𐌾, named jēr, also expressing /j/. The Elder Futhark rune gives rise to the Anglo-Frisian runes ᛄ /j/, named gēr /jeːr/, and ᛡ /io/, named ior, and to the Younger Futhark ár rune ᛅ, which stood for /a/ as the /j/ phoneme had disappeared in Old Norse.
The reconstructed Common Germanic name *jēran is the origin of English year (Old English ġēar). In contrast to the modern word, it had a meaning of "season" and specifically "harvest", and hence "plenty, prosperity".
The Germanic word is cognate with Greek ὧρος (horos) "year" (and ὥρα (hora) "season", whence hour), Slavonic jarŭ "spring" and with the -or- in Latin hornus "of this year" (from *ho-jōrinus), as well as Avestan yāre "year", all from a PIE stem *yer-o-.
The derivation of the rune is uncertain; some scholars see it as a modification of Latin G ("C (ᚲ) with stroke") while others consider it a Germanic innovation. The letter in any case appears from the very earliest runic inscriptions, figuring on the Vimose comb inscription, harja.

Can we ever know what’s real? Communication scholar Sean Tiffee examines the relationship between perception and reality and questions the intersection between the two. In this talk, he advises us not to mind the gap, but to mine the gap and become a more loving and empathic person. Sean is a voracious reader and estimates that he reads more than five hours a day. He has a PhD in Rhetoric and Langage from the University of Texas. He has taught Communication Studies courses at the University of Texas, Texas State University, and Austin Community College. He currently teaches at Lone Star College - Tomball. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. In this video we examine the theoretical aspect of "The logic of sensation", in particular: -the concept of diagram -the three types of analogies -Goethe's theory of colours This allows us to understand how, according to Deleuze, modern painting comes to emphasise space over time.
