Person from Europe here! While i was in USA i experience culture shock. I am asking you if you were in Europe what shocked you the most or if maybe can you spot/ recognize European turist in USA , how are we different towards the locals. Thanks for sharing your experience, i always wanted to ask that😂.

Those who have travelled aboard, what did you do that was a culture shock to locals?

Was just thinking about my time in Japan. First went in April when it was very hot outside, a good 90F out. I knew this going there and brought clothes with me that was good for the hot weather.

I wore shorts and a sleeveless tank top one day. I kept on getting stares as I walked outside, not like the other days I was out where it was slightly cooler so I wore clothes that covered more. I was also asked for more pictures that day too.

Didn't even put two and two together until I questioned it more and realized that though it was hot, locals all wore long sleeve clothes, no shorts out. I stuck out 😅

So what culture shock moments did you cause of was part of in another country?

For me, it was a few years ago visiting a friend for a week outside of Boston. Several times I got scolded for calling a younger woman "ma'am". Here in the South USA, we call every woman, even dogs, ma'am.

The two terms are often used interchangeably, but can you tell me how these terms are used in scientific fields, and if any scientist have made distinctions.

i guess my question is more of ask an asian american??

for context, im studying in the US as an international student. i am asian and naturally gravitate towards other asians when attempting to make friends… while i can vaguely guess one’s ethnicity (or even google a classmate’s last name), i feel that asking about their ethnicity can be a nice conversation starter but idk how asian americans feel about it if i ask about their ethnicity, since i heard many identify as american nationality more than their asian culture. of course i wont go up to them and ask “where are you really from” since they are american born, but what is a nice way to ask? and also, how would y’all feel if an asian ask you (assuming u’re asian american) about your roots? and would yall keep to yourselves and not friend an asian just cause they aren’t american born? i’m sorry if this seems like such a stupid question but i’m just curious and dont wanna offend anyone �?�?
