Inge Vandormael

Posted in alchemy, anatomy, art, nature with tags , , , , on September 23, 2016 by shewalkssoftly

Inge Vandormael sticks to a simple color palette; black, white, red and silver for drawings, muted autumnal tones for watercolor. But the symbolism in her work is profound.

Much of her older work was inspired by Eastern religion, myth and philosophy. Clearly influenced by nature and the beautiful structure within the ephemeral cycles of life and death, her newer works delve into alchemical and sacred geometry.

C7

I could find no biographical information for the artist known as C7, but I did find a delightfully intricate collection of enigmatic bones and mysterious figures.

Ah, we know I love a good artist who can intertwine nature, life and death in thought-provoking clusters of archetypes.

I’ve posted about Ellen Jewett previously, but over the last three years, her work has continued to grow by leaps and bounds.

I’ve been looking at a lot of historical nautical maps lately. What maps lacked in accuracy 500 years ago, they sure made up for with extravagant design. I’d be pretty thrilled if this guy showed up on my GPS.

Sadly, it’s pretty clear that “solitudes” has a double meaning here.

I don’t think this is what she meant by “Calgon, take me away!”
2

Actually, he said you guys were more like acquaintances. Just sayin’.
3

Breathtaking…

DY-NO-MITE! Actual mites, I mean.
5

You mean cats can saw wood and build things while mine have been eating and sleeping all day? Freaking freeloaders.

Speaking of cats…

That new fertilizer did wonders for the harvest.

Ugh. One of those evenings.
8

This requires careful planning.

I stared at this for like five minutes in a futile attempt to decide which one is creepier.

Ghost Light Gallery

Posted in art, automata, nature, sculpture with tags , , , , , on August 16, 2016 by shewalkssoftly

I saw a light up sculpture from Ghost Light Gallery on Instagram and was immediately sold. Her beautiful creatures are often softly illuminated, articulated with moving parts, or they share secret worlds within them.

Her two dimensional work is also quite lovely.

In reference to her pieces, artist Jamie Winn says:
As an artist I have constantly struggled with the burden of creating “relevant” art. I’ve done my best over the years to allow myself to become vulnerable in the public’s eye while at the same time attempting to seem somehow mysterious, as I’m sure most women do. Many of the things I have created are deeply rooted in my childhood and have mostly been visible through my automata work.

I strive to create things that force the viewer to use both sides of the brain- appreciating the obvious artwork and then through the moving mechanisms, attempting to discover how it is working. I’m trying to push the boundaries of self discovery both for my art appreciators and myself. That is my goal.

Her Instagram contains work I didn’t see in her online portfolio, so don’t miss it!

I saved so many images from Kelly Louise Judd’s portfolio. I just could not stop.

Her delicate paintings are inspired by fairy tales, folklore, ghosts, psychology, nature and Victoriana.

One finds many beautiful beasts and symbols in her work…

Meredith Woolnough Embroidery

Yes, this is embroidery!

MeredithWoolnough10

Meredith Woolnough sews intricate leaves, coral and other forms found in nature on her sewing machine with a special fabric that dissolves in water, leaving only the gorgeously fragile skeleton of the design.

I love the way she mounts them on a crisp white background to show the subtle shadows.

Redd Walitzki

I’ve been following Redd Walitzki’s work for years and was under the impression that I had already posted about her (oops!).

Redd Walitzki

Her portraits are ethereal, fluid and sensual, yet somehow wild…unbridled.

Emergence

Each piece is done on an intricately designed laser cut frame which, unlike traditional frames, serves as an actual part of the image itself. I love the unique uncontained effect this technique creates!

These pieces are even more lovely in person. Definitely check out her work if you get a chance.
