Bitcoin is the currency of the Internet: a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Unlike traditional currencies such as dollars, bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. As such, it is more resistant to wild inflation and corrupt banks. With Bitcoin, you can be your own bank.

The previous halvings

Litecoin was created at the end of 2011 and will have a halving every 4 years until it stops in the year 2142.

The First Halving (August 25, 2015)

The first halving was in late August 2015, cryptocurrencies weren't near as popular as they are today, but Litecoin already was one of the top 3. Now let's look at the Chart for the end of 2015. The red line is the Halving date :

LTC/USD - June:Decembre 2015

As you can see, the most dramatic price movement happened more than a month before the halving. After the halving, the price didn't move as much (+16.5% after halving, still pretty nice returns if you ask me)

The Second Halving (August 5, 2019)

You get the idea, we're going to look at a chart ! Same as before, the red line is the Halving date :

LTC/USD - 2019

Once again, the ATH for that year wasn't after the halving, but before it ! While the spike isn't as dramatic as in 2015, the price still went up a lot a bit more than a month before the havling date.

After the halving, the price went down a lot. By the end of the year it was 74% down

The Next Halving

The Third halving (August 2, 2023)

Now that we're ready for the next LTC halving, let's try to understand what happened in the past month or so, and maybe we'll be able to get an idea of where's LTC heading

LTC/USD - January:July 2023

And once again, a month before the halving, the price went up a lot ! People are getting ready, there's no surprises. I don't expect LTC to have a pump next week, at least not a sustainable one.

Conclusion

Litecoin is very different from Bitcoin, and while BTC has pumped the months following its own halvings, it hasn't happened for LTC. There's a place for Litecoin in the crypto space, the low fees are amazing by themselves. We just need to have our expectations in check, because Litecoin is probably already priced in and the next halving won't have an effect on its price.

Before investing in a coin, make sure to DYOR. I'm not providing technical analysis, or at least a very basic one that anyone could do.

Stay safe and don't invest more than you can afford to lose !
