I’ve seen a ton of posts like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Whatcouldgowrong/comments/14tvxqg/wcgw_trying_to_steal_from_a_drugstore

People fill their cart or bags casually, no masks, then just walk out like nothing’s up. Is this a recent thing (and in which case what’s driving it) or has it always been happening but it’s getting more attention in social media?

Update since this is the main comment I’m getting: I have definitely already filed a report. I did it the very next morning with the help of my old SM.

thanks all. :)

**

So I transferred to a new store temporarily. This store is in another state but it’s close to family and I needed to be there temporarily for personal reasons. I have worked in a lot of different Walgreens in several states. And I have NEVER in my lifetime been treated like this before. (Backstory, I was born in that state and know they tend to hate outsiders but this experience was still just WILD).

So I arrive to the store on my first day and say hi to the cashier and smiled. She looks me up and down with a smirk and completely ignores me. I asked her where the store manager is, she shrugs and goes back to reading a magazine. So I walk around the store looking for literally anyone else. Finally I find this guy in a tshirt and jeans but he’s got a Walgreens badge on so I asked him for the manager. He is the manager. Great. “Hi I’m ____, your new temporary employee.” He says he’s got no idea who I am and doesn’t know anything about it. I mention i e been talking to the pharmacy manager and the district manager about transfer and he’s like ok sure whatever. So we go into the office and he’s like “I can’t put you into the system bc I don’t know how.” So I walk him through how to put an employee into the system (I’m usually an SFL). He’s like “I can’t give you a locker because I don’t know what the locker combinations are.” So I’m like fine I’ll just store them in the pharmacy since that’s where I’m working today.

We both walk back to the pharmacy and he’s like “hey what’s the combination for the door?” The girl behind the counter doesn’t say anything but opens the door for us. He introduces me as a new employee. Everyone completely ignores him. He says “I don’t know anything about the pharmacy because this is my first day at Walgreens (?!?!?). But these girls can teach you.” The girl behind the counter looks at me and says “you need to work the front.” And then goes back around the corner to the fill station. The pharmacist and three techs were all back there in the corner talking. The pharmacist was the only one doing any work.

I was working the front counter and the drive through ALONE and the lines were insane. I mentioned aloud several times that I needed help with the front. I was completely ignored for four hours.

The phones were ringing off the hook the whole time and nobody was answering them. When I had a break in the lines I finally answered the phone and it a prescription transfer. In my home state techs can’t do transfers, only pharmacists. So I put them on hold and tell the pharmacist there’s a transfer on 101. I hear her around the corner say to the other techs “is she too stupid to do it herself or what?” A tech comes around and tells me I have to do it. I told her I’ve never done it bc we’re not allowed to in X. She rolls her eyes and tells me I better figure it out or the phone will stay unanswered. I get back on the phone and explain the situation and the pharmacist on the other line is able to walk me through it enough that we finally got it figured out.

Then someone comes up wanting a flu shot. I ask her if she’s had her pneumonia vaccine as well bc the computer prompted me to. She says she hasn’t and says she’ll go ahead and get both. So I put them in and give the paperwork to the pharmacist. A tech comes over to me and tells me I didn’t write “waiting” on the paperwork itself so I better fix it or I’ll get fired. Wtf does that even mean? OBVIOUSLY the patient is waiting.

The pharmacist says “it’s 1pm and we close for lunch at 1:30 so you need to tell this woman that she’s stuck waiting here until after 2 because I can’t do it until I get back at 2. And YOU have to tell her since YOU are the one who fucked this up.” WHAT?

So I go explain to the lady that the pharmacist wouldn’t be able to do it until 2 and the woman said that’s fine I’ll wait.

WE DIDNT EVEN CLOSE FOR LUNCH. The pharmacy stayed open all through lunch. Which we definitely weren’t supposed to, what?

Pharmacist finally goes out at 2:30 to give the woman her shots and she comes back telling me the woman didn’t want a flu shot that she didn’t ask for it. I said that’s literally the whole reason she came in. The pharmacist was like “well either she’s lying or you’re lying and it’s clear that you’re the problem here.”

What the fuck? (I saw the woman walking through the aisles later and she had a wags bandage on both arms so I know she got both shots).

Then finally another tech came in and had me go to the filling station. not a single bottle was in the correct place. Nothing was remotely alphabetical and they didn’t even have a fast rack. So I was searching for the bottles forever and the pharmacist asked me if I was stupid since it was taking forever to fill. I asked several JOB RELATED questions because the pharmacy was a disaster and finally the pharmacist told me “you ask too many questions and you need to shut up.” I was asking job related questions. It’s not like I was prying into your obviously shitty and empty life.

Finally my shift was over and I went to grab my stuff (literally just my car keys and a water bottle) and the pharmacist (who was NOT the pharmacy manager) said “bring personal items back here again and you won’t have a job anymore.”

I blocked the store number in the parking lot before driving home and will NEVER step foot in that store again.

What the ACTUAL fuck.
